We got back to shalom and quickly showered. I got ready for the day, not doing any makeup because I didn't really feel like it. After, I went downstairs, grabbed something to eat then sat on the couch and started my devotions. Taylor had just got up a few minutes before and I could hear her making breakfast for herself in the kitchen. Soon I heard Em come down the stairs.
"Hi, Jessalyn," Emery said.
"Oh, hi Em. Come sit here, I want to explain something else to you now," I said, motioning for her to come sit beside me on the couch. She walked over slowly and sat on the other side of the couch, facing me.
"Another thing that we do here at camp is have devotions everyday in the morning. This is going to start for you too. I'm not going to be supervising you at all. I'll be in here doing my own devos and you can do them wherever you would like. Outside, inside, it doesn't matter as long as the weather is good." I explained. Emery nodded then stood up and headed to our room to grab her things. After a minute I heard her head outside.
That day my devotions were on Psalm 139:23-24, "Search me oh God and know my heart; know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." I instantly thought of Emery. This was just the verse for her. I silently prayed that she would feel that message that day and everyday.
The morning flew by with getting Emery's school work in order and ready to go. Soon it was time to have lunch. We all headed out to the picnic tables for lunch with the rest of the camp staff. Emery stayed close to Taylor and I. I could tell it was making her uncomfortable. We sat with the camp director, his wife, the ministry director Tim, his wife and their two kids. Their daughter Harper sat across form Emery. Harper and Emery didn't talk much that lunch but I could tell that they enjoyed being together. This was going to be a huge step for Emery. She'd had a tough time finding friends, but she seemed to click with Harper. I was happy for her and hoped that the two of them would become really good friends.
