After his parents' death, twelve-year-old Raleigh Ridley was taken in by a woman. She gave him a home, and despite taking the role of a parent, she remained reserved and often seemed as if she was studying him rather than watching him. After two years of living in the apartment alone with the strange woman, an incident next door occurred, and Raleigh was removed from her care and moved into the care of a man she trusted.

Years later, Raleigh was still living with this man, and throughout those years, he had come to realize that he was living a secret. The woman he lived with after his parents' death worked for the previously secret organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D., and the only reason he was under their watch was because of the powers he possessed.
