I sat in the living room, waiting for the gems to get back from whatever mission they were on. They'd been gone a few days, and I was starting to worry about them, well, about Steven and Amethyst, and maybe Garnet a little. They were the only ones who showed me even a little bit of compassion. Even if I wanted to go find them, I didn't know where they went.
I saw a bright blue light coming off of the warp pad and I ran to it, ready to welcome them home. But when the light faded I was met with two unfamilliar gems. One short green gem and one slightly taller blue gem.
"Where are the others?" The green gem yelled, looking around frantically.
"Who are you guys?" I questioned, having never seen these gems before.
"Sorry, I'm Lapis Lasuli, and this is Peridot." Lapis explained kindly.
"I'm Turquoise, but most of my friends on earth call me (y/n)" I explained.
"Turquoise? You're a Turquoise?" Peridot asked, astounded.
"I-Yeah. I'm off color, I know. But it doesnt affect any of my abilitys, I swear!" I defended myself.
Turquoises were supposed to be... well turquoise. I was more of a pale blue/white.
"Anyways, where are the crystal gems?" Lapis asked, cutting into our conversation.
"Theyre out on a mission. Something about a corrupted gem at a... kindergarden?"
"Of course! Where else would they be. We'll be out of your hair now. Thank you." Lapis said, about to warp.
"Wait!" I yelled, desperate.
"Yes?" Peridot asked, looking confused.
"Can I come?" I asked, praying they'd let me come along.
"I don't see why not." Lapis answered as I ran into the warp pad.
I was practically beaming. It was my first time using the warp pad, and going on a mission, and looking for a corrupted gem, and even seeing a corrupted gem! It was a lot of firsts. Maybe I'd be able to prove myself to the others along the way and I'd be able to go with them next time.
The light stream faded and I found myself in a dark ravine looking place with holes in the rock walls and with Lapis and Peridot beside me. I saw the other gems all huddled around something.
"Uh... it didnt have a gem..." Amethyst stated, sounding worried.
I made my way over to them, Peridot and Lapis following close behind.
"Need some help?" I questioned, peering over Amethysts shoulder.
"(Y/n)!" Amethyst and Steven yelled out at the same time.
"You can't be here. You'll just be a liability!" Pearl complained.
She continued to whine on, but while she did I noticed a large creature looming above her from behind. It was like a hawk, but it was huge, and its feathers were too long.
I leaped in front pearl, summoning my weapons in the process and lunged at the crature. I swirled my daggers around it, making long slices from multiple directions until it was reduced to a string of ribbons and a green gem fall to the ground. The ribbons of the creature poofed away and only the gem was left.
"I-" Pearl began, but her mouth just hung open.
"That was sick!" Amethyst complimented, running over to high five me.
Before she even made it to me a loud crash was heard.
"There's more of them?" Pearl screamed out, turning to face 4 other creatures of the same size and form as the other.
Each one had an army of nearly 500 smaller creatures of simmilar shape but the size of an average hawk, making for a total of around 2000 hawks that instantly took to sky. They blocked out the sun in our immediate area as everyone just stood there, so caught off guard.
"What the fu-" Amethyst began before Garnet shushed her for Stevens sake.
"That was... unexpected." I said, laughing a bit from the tense atmosphere.
"Well, what are we waiting for, lets get to work!" Peridot yelled, charging at one of the large birds.
It almost immediately knocked her back and sent her flying a couple feet into a rock wall.
"On second though... I'll just stay here. I'm sure you guys can handle it." Peridot choked out, scurrying to hide in one of the many holes in the rock walls.
The rest of us immediately jumped into action. Garnet took on one of the large birds as Pearl and Amethyst focused on a second bird and protecting Steven, and Lapis focused on the small birds in the sky. That left me, I took to the third bird and slashed wildly at it, hoping to make some sort of progress. After a long effort, I had slashed the bird into ribbons like the last one I fought. I decided to go help Garnet but before I reached her shed already poofed the bird. Pearl and Amethyst finished not long after. The sky was starting to clear up thanks to Lapis and streaks of sun were shining through as Garnet, Pearl, Amethyst, Steven and I all began to attack the final standing bird. It didn't take long, and without the last bird standing, all of the other smaller ones started to fall.
I watched in awe as the sky cleared and the gems began making their way to the warp pad. I decided to wait with Pearl and Steven while the others used the warp pad first. There wasnt a lot of space for everyone so I didnt mind waiting. Out of the corner of my eye I caught Steven nudge Pearl as everyone else warped away. Pearl turned to me after her and Steven exchanged a few whispers.
"I'm sorry... if you feel like I haven't been the most trusting. But certainly you can see why." Pearl stated, sounding like it pained her to even say the first two words.
"Pearl, you dont need to apologize. If I were in your shoes I'd dispise me too." I said, sighing.
"I don't despise you." She corrected me.
"Okay hate, dislike, whatever word you prefer. Either way, you don't need to apologize." I continued.
"I don't feel any of those things towards you! Its just, the crystal gems are my family, and I want to make sure they're safe from any threat." Pearl explained.
"So I'm a threat?" I asked jokingly.
"No, no!" She began.
"Pearl." I interrupted.
"Its not that..."
"Pearl."
"Its just that..."
"Pearl."
"I dont see you as a threat, thats not-"
"Pearl." I said, resting a hand on her upper arm.
"I was joking with you. Its okay." I explained, sending her a genuine smile.
"Oh." She said, a blush of embarrassment spreading on her cheeks.
"Thank you, for apologizing." I said as we began to walk to the warp pad.
