I woke up, begining to find the human practice of sleep fun. I smiled as I saw the sun streaking through the curtains. Today felt like it was going to be a good day. I hopped out of bed and ran down the beach.
"Woah, whats up with you?" Lars asked, confused as to why I seemed so happy.
"Nothing. We should hang out today." I suggested, getting a brilliant idea.
"Well, I don't have to work today. Sure." He said, smiling confidently.
"Well come on then!" Is said, laughing as I pulled him along down the beach by the hand.
He struggled to keep up with me, but he did nonetheless. Before I knew it, we had run nearly all the way down the beach. I got another good idea. I saw a boat sitting at the edge of the water, unsupervised, and ripe for the taking for a little joyride.
"We should go for a boat ride." I said, smiling up at him.
"What?" He asked, sceptical.
"Its the perfect day for a boat ride." I said, already hopping in the boat and fiddling with its controls, attempting to hotwire it.
"I-" He began to object but I'd already managed to start the boat.
It was small, but big enough to fit us both with some breathing room. It had a fairly powerful motor for its size.
"Come on, what are you waiting for." I said, pushing the boat out and getting in.
"Fine." He said, hopping into the boat.
I moved the boat a bit out, it was far enough to where we probably couldnt touch the ground if we got out, but close enough where if we had to get back to shore quickly, we could.
"So what're we doing out here again?" Lars asked, laying down and looking up at the clouds.
"Enjoying nature." I said, leaning back.
"Screw nature." Lars said, laughing.
"NATURE!" I yelled, splashing him with water.
"Wha-stop!" He said, laughing.
He splashed me back and we went back and forth for a bit until we got tired. Lars fell asleep and I just laid down, starring at the sky. The sky however, began to darken. The clouds grew a dark grey, the once cerulean sky turned muddy and almost black as the sun hid away from view.
"Hey Lars..." I said, anxiety building in me.
"Lars." I said, trying to wake him.
Rain began pouring down.
"Dont splash me, I'm up, I'm up." He said, groggily sitting up.
"I'm not splashing you." I said, pointing to the sky.
His eyes widened and he snapped awake.
"We have to get back to shore!" He yelled, trying to paddle to boat back.
I attempted to start the boat, I saw the controls spark and the motor powered up. I was hopeful, until the motor almost immediately shorted out and sputtered to a stop. Then the storm started getting bad. It started to thunder and lighting struck down. Of course, with my luck. Out boat got struck, straight down the middle. It split in two. I clung onto one half of the boat, hoisting myself up and letting my legs hang off to paddle, Lars did the same with the other half. Waves crashed into us at unrelenting speeds and intensity.
"Lars!" I screamed, pointing to a huge wave coming behind him.
"Hm?" He asked, turning around, he was immediately taken over and went under.
I went down not long after, struggling underwater before eventually blacking out.
By the time I woke up I felt myself being harshly thrown against some sand by a wave. I coughed as I struggled to stand up. Once I'd stood up I looked around to find that I wasn't in beach city anymore. I saw Lars floating in the knee height water close to shore.
"Lars!" I screamed running towards him and dragging him out of the waters reach.
"Lars, I'm sorry. This is all my fault." I said, tears running down my cheeks as I tried frantically checking for a pulse.
I felt the dull throb of a pulse and almost on cue he sat up, coughing and spitting out water, gasping for air.
"What? Where are we?" He asked, looking around.
"Hey, hey, its alright." I said, said as he began panicking.
"Lay back down. I'll go try to find a cellphone signal." I said, lightly pushing him back down to the sand.
"No, I want to be useful." He protested as he started to get up again.
"Fine. Start gathering wood in case we need to stay here for a bit. I'll meet you back here in a little bit." I said, trying to give him an easy task.
He just nodded and headed off to gather wood. I exsplored every nook and cranny of the island, and not a single area had a cellphone signal. After a few hours or so of searching the small island, I gave up and headed back to the place we agreed on meeting. I was mildly concerned that Lars wouldn't have been able to find his way back but when I approached he was there, along with a pile of wood taller than me! He sat, leaning against the wood and looking content with himself.
"Well, thats one way to gather wood." I said, laughing.
He just smiled at me and stood up.
"So did you get a signal?" He asked, hopefully.
"No..." I said, looking down.
"Lemme see that." He said, snatching the phone out of my hand.
I figured I'd let him do his own investigating as I started to utilize the wood he brought back. Only about a third of it was ideal for a fire, the others were either too small or too large. I used the large logs and sticks to make a small cabin for us to sleep in, and I used the smaller sticks for decorations around the cabin, wind chimes, wall decor, even dreamcatchers. There were a few sticks the perfect size for tools. I managed to fashion a spear and a few smaller sharp sticks to put food on. I eventually made a crude axe looking thing out of a stick, some twine, and a rock that I'd sharpened. I built a fire pit out front, and gathered some bamboo to split for flexible, and strong beds. As I was working on the bamboo I saw a figure emerge from the woods. As Lars drew closer, his head down, he mumbled something along the lines of 'No signal'.
"Mind helping me with this bamboo?" I asked, attempting to split the bamboo with the previously mentioned axe-like tool.
"How-I was only gone for a few hours!" He yelled, just now looking up to see the cabin and its comoditys.
I just laughed as he walked around the cabin, inspecting every little detail.
"So are you going to help with the bamboo or what?" I asked, smiling up at him.
"Oh-I-Uh-Yeah." He stuttered out, laughing a bit.
A bit of bamboo splitting later and we'd managed to make our beds. I had a bed in the corner and he had one towards the center of the back wall.
