Chapter 14

The next day, Ruby walked back to her room and found Evie alone sewing.

"Where's Mal?" Ruby asked when she realized she wasn't in the room.

"She is on a date with Ben," Evie replied. Ruby looked at her surprised.

"Well, I guess that love potion is working out for her," Ruby said. She walked over to her bed and set down her guitar and sat down. "How's that golden string working for you?"

"Amazing, thank you again for letting me use it," Evie said.

"Anytime, just let me know when you need more," Ruby replied. Evie stopped her work and turned around to look at Ruby.

"You'll never guess what happened to me today," Evie said as she picked up a packet of papers and held it close to her chest so Ruby couldn't read it.

"You became an international fashion star?" Ruby said. Evie laughed.

"No, that didn't happen, yet," Evie replied. She turned the packet around. "I got a B+ on my chemistry test! Without magic or anything."

"Good job E, I'm so proud of you!" Ruby replied. "It looks like Auradon is leaving an impression on you."

"Yeah, I guess it is," Evie replied. "We should go out and celebrate tonight."

"I'm sorry, Evie, but I already have plans," Ruby said. "Marlin is taking me to Atlantis. He said he's going to stop by and pick me up in a few hours."

"Atlantis?" Evie questioned. "Like on a date?"

"No, I don't think so," Ruby replied. Evie gave her a look.

"Oh come on, Ruby," Evie pried. "You've spent every day with this guy, and now he just randomly asks you to go with him to someplace special to him?"

"Evie, it's not a date," Ruby protested.

"Okay, whatever you say," Evie replied as she turned back around to continue her sewing. "You should still dress nice."

"Yeah, I'm not planning on putting too much effort into this," Ruby said. "He just wanted to take me because I like magic and music." Evie pulled a dark red short dress with gold accents from her sewing machine.

"Alright, but I just finished making this beautiful dress for you. You can wear it." She turned to show Ruby. "Plus, if you're going to Atlantis, he'll probably introduce you to his grandfather, who is royalty, so you should look nice." Ruby sighed.

"Fine, I'll wear the dress," she replied.

"I'll do your makeup too," Evie added.

"Is makeup really necessary for this?"Ruby questioned.

"Makeup is always necessary," Evie replied. "Now come on, I'll barely have enough time to get you ready."

About two hours later, Evie was putting her finishing touches on Ruby. She straightened her long black hair, and traded her black lipstick for a nice red with a light pink blush.

Ruby looked at herself in the mirror.

"Wow, I actually don't look terrible for once," Ruby said as she admired her dress.

"See, it's fun to get dressed up every once in a while," Evie said as she stood behind her. "Even if you're not going on a date. Now for the finishing touch." She held out a black leather jacket that was pale green on the inside. Ruby put the jacket on and looked at herself in the mirror.

"If only my father could see me now," she said as she continued to stare at herself.

"I'm sure he would say you look beautiful," Evie assured her.

"He'd probably say I'm wasting my time and distracting myself from our mission," Ruby replied. "He's not the most forgiving person when things don't go his way."

"Don't worry, as soon as you're back, we'll make the next phase of our plan after we find out how Mal's date went. It shouldn't take too much longer to get the wand." Ruby looked at herself in the mirror as she thought about the plan. She wasn't sure if she actually wanted to steal the wand anymore, but she didn't want to disappoint her father.

"Yeah, we can do that," Ruby said as her smile disappeared. Then, they heard a knock at their door. Evie started to walk towards the door.

"Alright, it's time for your not-date with Marlin," Evie said as she reached for the doorknob.
