Laura jolted out of bed as she heard a slam through the pouring rain outside her window. Her first thought was that it was just the thunder, so she laid back down and attempted to fall back asleep before Nathaniel and Lillian woke up. Then she heard something else. Footsteps. Laura quickly bolted to the closet. She fumbled through Clint's layers of flannel shirts and grabbed the shotgun. She slipped on her slippers and crept slowly out the door. She heard the thing move into the kitchen. She tiptoed slowly down the stairs, being careful to step on the exact spot on the old stairs that she knew would not creak as her weight was placed onto them. She continued slowly, as so the thing would not be alerted to her. She finally reached the bottom and slowly snuck to the edge of the kitchen. She pulled the gun up to her shoulder and put her finger near the safety. She spotted a figure moving in the fridge, the light barely letting her see the outline of their figure.

"Get out!" she shrieked. The figure jumped and shut the door.

"It's me!!!!" it yelled suddenly. Laura lowered the gun to try and make out who it was. She quickly flicked on a light to see in front of her a blonde man in dirty clothes, soaked to the bone. Clint smiled at her. "Good grief I tried not to wake you."

Laura placed the gun on a chair and flew her arms around her husband. She hugged him tightly before slapping him lightly on the cheek. "Where on earth were you?!? Or were you not even on earth? Please tell me you were at least in the galaxy."

Clint chuckled and brushed the hair out of Laura's face before kissing her softly. "Yes, I was on earth the entire time. Don't you worry." He sighed. "Things got rough. It took a turn." Clint looked at the floor briefly before turning back to Laura. He looked into her eyes. "But it's over now. I'm officially done."

"You said that last time." Laura whispered. Clint hugged her even tighter.

"I promise. It's over." Clint whispered back. They stayed like this for a moment, enjoying the soft embrace. Relaxing for the first time in months. Being able to feel peace. Calm. Calm wasn't a feeling they often felt.

The calm was suddenly interrupted as a thought dropped onto Laura's head.

"Clint." she pulled away and grabbed his shoulders. "Where is Steve?"
