"I've gotta say Steve, this wasn't what I expected when you knocked on my door." Kate told Steve as she snuggled the baby in her arms. She had somehow managed to pick up the baby without waking it. Kate smiled at how content it seemed. She then turned back to Steve. "So what are you going to do with it?"
"I'm hoping to keep it, but I really don't know how to raise a child. Any chance you could give me some advice?" Steve asked. Kate was the only person he thought would be able to help in. He was sure that the baby was safe with her.
Kate smiled and nodded. "Of course I'll help you." Steve sighed in relief. "But your gonna need some supplies. I'm guessing you don't have anything around here for a baby." Kate glanced around, and then made a face. "Any chance you've got a diaper?"
Steve laughed and shook his head. "We'd better do some shopping." Kate nodded and they headed out the door.
"Well," Kate sighed, "she's pretty happy now that she's changed and fed." Steve nodded, smiling at the baby girl in his arms. The sweet baby chewed her fingers, watching the toy Kate waved in front of her face.
"I'm starting to really wonder what I've gotten myself into." Steve shook his head, never taking his eyes off the baby.
"I'm sure you'll be a great dad." Kate tried to encourage Steve. "And I'll try to help whenever I can."
Steve smiled. "Thanks, Kate." he then chuckled as he looked over in the corner. "Now, any chance you can construct a crib?"
It was ten at night by the time Steve and Kate managed to get everything set up and ready. They had bought formula, diapers, clothes, a changing table and dresser combination, bouncer, swing, and crib. It had taken them all afternoon to set everything up and find a place for it all.
Meanwhile, the tiny baby laid happily in the bouncer. Kate and Steve sat down and smiled at the sleeping baby.
Steve turned to Kate. "I'm crazy, aren't I?" he asked Kate. She smiled and shrugged.
"I think it's great, Steve. You're only missing one thing."
"What's that?"
"She needs a name." Kate smiled. Steve leaned back and looked down at the precious baby. He thought for a moment, and then he decided.
"Lillian Grace."
