Park Sungjin POV
I waved goodbye to my colleagues and pressed the button on my car key. My car started beeping and I immediately made my way to shining black car. I frowned at the sight of droppings of bird on the windshield. I used the wing mirror as my punching bag and punched it softly to let out my anger. It made a loud creak and it immediately fell on my palms. I sigh before letting out a small screech. I hastily climbed in the car to avoid further damage.
I reached out to insert the car key but my hand slipped as it dropped to the floor. I groaned and got down to pick it up. As I was sitting back up, my head clashed against the car wheel. I hissed at the pain and slowly got up. My eyebrows furrowed in frustration and I immediately jammed the car key in. Not only did I missed it once, nor twice but thrice! I screamed while ruffling my already messed-up hair.
I looked up when I heard two single knocks on my window. I made a slow turn before glaring at whoever that was knocking my window. My fellow colleague, Woojin. I rolled down the window so that I could talk to him-- Maybe ask him for his words of wisdom.
"D-Dude, are you okay? You're scaring the kids. Their parents even thought you were possessed," He calmly explained, keeping a one arm length distance. I turned to face the parents and slightly bowed.
"I'm fine. It's just.. I'm careless. Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow. Bye," I waved him off and tried to start the car once more. I pressed onto the acceleration but only to find out that it's malfunctioning. Small puffs of smoke escaped the car hood. I dropped my head on the car wheel and screamed as the horn went on. Why am I so unlucky today?
Kim Soojin POV
I crumbled the paper and tossed it in the bin for the 34th time today. I sighed and took a deep breath, not wanting to give up anytime soon. I tried to reach for my sharpener but I accidentally spilled my cup of hot cocoa. Normally I wouldn't care too much but I spilled my hot cocoa on the finished drafts. I abruptly stood up and tried to pick up the drafts but it was already submerged in the brown liquid.
"Oh come on!" I slammed my fists on my table, dropping the cup of hot cocoa on the floor. I stood in horror as it broke into small shards. I brought my hands to my face and started crying out of frustration. The used-to-be silent room was now filled with my hiccups and sniffing.
"Hey hey, what happened?" I turned to the doorway and saw my beloved roommate. I made my way to her with opened arms. She brushed my curled brown locks and patted my back.
"Frustrated? Let me see if I can help you. I've been practicing," She smiled softly at me and let go of me.
"N-No, you don't have to perform black magic for me. It's too risky," I held her wrist. She smiled at me once more.
"Trust me."
"Mi Yung no-"
She raised her right hand at the broken shards of the cup and covered her eyes with her left hand. She started crouching and heaved in a deep breath before she got on her knees.
"My Lord, for thou shall turn this whole mess back to normal in 20 seconds. I shall sacrifice a tear of mine, red in colour," My eyes widened. I was about to hold her back but hesitated. The last time I did, I was pushed back by a force that didn't even exist. I didn't want to watch her do the ritual anymore.
"I hope you snap back into reality, Mi Yung," I shook my head disappointedly. She had everything. Beauty, talent and braincells. Why did she decided to be a black magic professional?
"Koosung, she's doing it again."
"Aish, I'll lock the door. What happened to your 'flow of writing'?"
"I just had a sudden burst of unluckiness. I thought I could at least produce a chapter or two today but something just had to go wrong," I plopped on the chair next to her. She sat up and coughed, pushing her fringe away from her face. I cocked an eyebrow. Strange behavior is not something usual for Koosung.
"What's up with you? Don't tell me this is a sign to the.. you know.. the other world," Koosung glanced at me before shaking her head hesitantly.
"It's related isn't it? You know you can trust me right?"
"I-It just feels like a sin for me to say it out loud but there is someone out there trying to get into this world. Someone that has a strong passion and is probably dangerous by itself. A sign of sudden unluckiness is something to take note of," I sank back in my seat and watched her in shock. I rested my finger on my chin as I wondered.
"Heol. Do you think that someone is related to us? Maybe specifically Mi Yung?"
"Perhaps. Why Mi Yung though?"
"She's the strongest among us. I wonder if it's Myung Ki. It's been so long since I meet Myung Ki. Such a bubbly person. What if she's just like her sister? A monster?"
I cupped my mouth, eyes widened. Koosung made a sharp turn to me, shocked at what I just said. She got up and pulled me away, into her room where it's sound proofed. She slammed the metal door shut before gripping onto my shoulders, staring dead into my eyes.
"There are spirits that might hear you. It'll only make Mi Yung stronger. Now tell me honestly, what else do you know about Myung Ki and how?"
A loud bang caught us off guard as we both looked at the her door. Mi Yung innocently waving at us from outside. The walls of Koosung is like a window except from outside, they are not able to look in. Mi Yung smiled as she waved her knife around. That isn't even the scary part. The scary part is, she isn't in her human state. Her lips were stitched into a smile and her eyes were filled with nothing but black.
"Come out and let's play," She spoke without even opening her mouth. After all, it was stitched into a smile. I looked to Koosung who was just as frightened as me but much more composed than me.
"HELLOO IM HOME~" Koosung started to panic as she heard Chung Ae's voice from the doorway. We both gulped as we watched Mi Yung's facial expressions turned into a much more demonic expression. She whistled and made her way to Chung Ae's room.
"C-Chung Ae. H-Help h-her," I breathed before collapsing onto the ground, gasping for air. I coughed before falling into darkness.
