Best Friends

Hey everyone, sorry for the lack of updates lately, but I've been busy with a lot of other stuff. I'll try to update my other stories this weekend as well.

This is kinda a filler chapter. It just shows Jay and Cole bonding and having fun. Hope you enjoy and please leave a comment. 😉😊

The next morning, Jay was still sound asleep in bed when Cole went in to wake him up for breakfast. As Cole entered Jay's room, he couldn't help but smile at how cute Jay looked.

Jay had a cute little smile on his face, snuggling with Mr. Cuddlywump, and lightly snoring. He looked peaceful and Cole was tempted not to wake him up, but he knew he had to.

He took Jay by the shoulder and gently shook him awake, while saying, "Time to get up, Jay."

Slowly, Jay open his eyes, reveling his sapphire orbs. He gave a small yawn and rubbed his sleepy eyes.

"Morning Jay." Cole said, and smiled at the young ninja. Jay gave a small smile and got out of bed to get changed.

After Jay got dressed, he and Cole walked down to the kitchen, where Zane was serving waffles for breakfast. Cole tried to talk to Jay during breakfast, but Jay was more interested in talking to Nya.

Cole felt crushed. Yesterday, Jay had been to scared to go near him. He was less scared today, but Cole could tell that Jay was still scared of him. And it totally bugged him that his best friend was afraid of him.

Then, after breakfast, Jay was surprised to see Nya getting ready to leave with the other ninja. He innocently asked, "Where are you going, Nya?"

Nya bent down to Jay's height, took his hands into hers and said, "Jay, I have to help the other ninja today, so Cole's going to watch you."

"No!" Jay cried, flinging himself into Nya's arms in a hug. "Don't go Nya!"

Nya gently stroked Jay's hair and said, "It's okay Jay. I'll be back later tonight, and you and Cole are going to have a great time together."

Nya got Jay to let her go and gently kissed his forehead. "I'll be back as soon as we're done." She said as she stood up and walked away.

Jay tried to follow her, but Cole lifted him up before he could. All he could do is watch as Nya left with tears in his eyes.

For the next few hours, Cole tried almost everything he could think of to take Jay's mind off Nya, but nothing seemed to be working.

Cole was about to try something else when his cellphone rang. He looked at who it was and saw it was Nya. He quickly answered and said, "Hey Nya, did you find the spell?"

"No, I just called to see how things are going with Jay." She admitted. "He seemed really upset about me leaving this morning."

Cole looked in the living room and saw Jay just moping around. He knew he couldn't lie to Nya, so he said, "Jay is really upset that you're not here, and I'm not sure what to do. I've tried everything that he normally loves doing."

"Cole, that might be your problem." Nya said, which confused Cole.

"What might be my problem?" He asked.

"You're doing things that big Jay likes." Nya explained. "This is a younger Jay, he might not like the same stuff as big Jay."

Cole thought about this for a moment. All the things he tried to get Jay to do did seem boring for a little kid. Maybe Nya was right, and he just needed to take a different approach.

"Nya, you just gave me an idea. I'll talk to you later." He said, then hung up. He then walked back to the living room to talk to Jay.

He found Jay hanging upside down from the couch. He looked bored out of his mind and had a frown on his face.

Cole sat next to him and asked, "Jay, are you okay."

"No," Jay said, getting up from his upside down position on the couch. "I miss Nya."

"I know buddy, but she's busy helping the others right now." Cole said, picking up Jay and setting him in his lap. "She'll be home soon."

"But I want her back home now." Jay said in a small sad voice that sounded like he was about to start crying. Cole felt sorry for his friend, so he put his plan into action.

"How about this Jay, if you play a game with me for ten minutes, then I'll convince Nya to read you a bedtime story tonight and give you a goodnight kiss." Cole offered.

Jay thought about this more a moment and said, "Okay, but I get to choose the story, right?"

"Of course." Cole answered.

"Then let's play." Jay said happily.

"Okay, and I already have a great game in mind." Cole said with a large grin on his face.

For the next hour, Cole and Jay created a fort together in the living room. They were pretending that it was a kingdom, Jay was the king, and Cole was his loyal knight.

They were having so much fun, that they didn't even notice the rest of the ninja come home until someone cleared their throat to get their attention.

Jay and Cole looked over to see the other ninja smiling at them. Once Jay noticed Nya, he ran over to her with his arms open.

"Nya!" He cried while jumping into her arms. "I missed you."

"I missed you too, Jay." Nya said, hugging him very close. "Did you have a fun day with Cole?"

"Yeah, he's awesome!" Jay yelled.

Cole smiled victoriously. It had taken all day, but he finally got his best friend to see that he wasn't scary at all.

"By the way Cole, we knew you'd be busy with Jay, so we got pizza rather than have you cook a late dinner." Kai said, taking Cole out of his thoughts.

Only then had Cole realized it was his night to cook, but he was so busy with Jay that he completely forgot about it.

'Oh well,' Cole thought to himself as he walked into the kitchen. 'It's their loss.'

They all ate a quick dinner and played with Jay a little more. Lloyd even joined Jay's 'kingdom' as one of his knights.

"You are now Sir Lloyd, Knight of Energy." Jay said, Lloyd kneeling in front of him. "You may rise."

Lloyd rose to his feet and jokingly said, "My dear king, what is your command."

Jay yawned and thought for a moment, but before he could come up with anything, Nya came in and said, "Okay Jay, it's bedtime."

As she picked him up, Jay said, "Please Nya, ten more minutes."

"Sorry Jay, but it's time for bed. Plus, don't you want your bedtime story and goodnight kiss?" Nya asked.

She carried him up to his room and helped him get ready for bed. She chose out his pajamas, made sure he brushed his teeth, and tucked him in bed.

"Okay, What story do you want to hear?" Nya asked, remembering what Cole had told her about his and Jay's agreement.

"I want to hear a story about dragons." Jay said.

Nya smiled, and already knew the perfect story to tell him. She told him the story of the dragons that her father use to tell her and Kai when they were children. It was one of her favorite stories, so she knew it by heart.

By the time she was done, Jay was already softly snoring and cuddling Mr. Cuddlywump. Nya smile and gently gave him a kiss on his forehead. Then, as she walked out the door, she whispered, "Goodnight Jay." Then left him to sleep for the night.
