I looked up from the book I was reading when I heard a sudden crash coming from just outside my window. My heart was beating fast in my chest and my breath was caught in my throat. Surely it was just a bird flying into my window right? What else would cause a noise like that at 11.24am? It's not like someone would try and break into my house in daylight, even if I did live in a dodgy neighbour hood.
I picked up the book mark from my bed side table and slid it between my current page and placed the book back on the table before cautiously walking over to my window. I slowly pulled my curtain back an inch, just enough for me to see if anything was out there. To my surprise nothing was there. All I could see was the sunlight reflecting of the blue pool and my dog running laps around the grassed area.
I let go of the curtain letting it fall back into place and sauntered over to my closet to get dressed.

I gave my mum a quick kiss on the check before leaving to go to the shops. I felt really guilty leaving her since she worked night shift and I hardly got to see her. She was a single parent and has been since she first had me, when she was 17.
After a 25 minute bus ride to the shops, I finally arrived. It was always busy on a Saturday and I wasn't looking forward to all the annoying people at all.
I wasn't the most popular girl at school, heck I wasn't popular at all. I was the girl who skimmed by with out being grouped in a 'nerd' or 'popular' group - which I was proud of. I didn't need a stereotype to tell me what kind of person I was. I only really had 1 friend - Jackson.
I walked around the shops for an hour buying some new clothes, then decided it was time to get some lunch. My stomach was rumbling because I had missed out on breakfast this morning.
"What can I get you?" The cashier at McDonalds asked me as I finally approached the check out.
"Just a small cheese burger meal, thanks." I replied handing over my money.
"No problem."
I walked to the other side of the check out bench, leaning against it as I wait. It was really busy in the food Court. Almost all the tables were filled with parents, children and teens. If I didn't like children so much, I would have been pulling my hair out from the consistent noise from the crying babies.
Finally my order was called out and I was handed my tray with my meal on top. I walked towards the steps onto a platform where many tables were set out. I spotted a table on the right, on the outer side of the seating and decided on sitting there. As I attempted to lift my foot up onto the first step, my body jolted forwards without my legs moving due to me standing on my own shoelace restricting my feet from going anywhere. I dropped my tray and everything spilt as I fell up the stairs. A bright red blush spread across my face as I realised everyone had just seen me fall.
I heard a few people chuckle as I pushed myself up from the floor gathering all of my things back onto the tray.
"Are you okay?" A voice asked from behind me.
"Fine." I replied bluntly.
The male moved around into my vision and my blush grew deeper. He had amazing blue eyes and brown scruffy, surfer hair. "Are you sure?"
"Yeah." I said honestly as I walked over to the bin tipping all my wasted food into the rubbish and placing the tray onto the stack of dirty dishes.
"Did you see her fall?" I heard a familiar voice laugh loudly from a few tables away.
I turned around to see Brittany, the stuck up blonde barbie doll who attended my school. Of course, the one day I'm actually noticed is the day I make a fool of myself.
