'I'm really not happy about this Chris.' Katherine said as they ate breakfast the next morning. Katherine was aggressively stirring her coffee, Christina watching her with a small grin on her face.
'You don't need to take it out on the coffee.' Christina said. Katherine stopped and looked at her.
'Christina.' Katherine almost growled. 'You need to stop this self destructive behaviour.' She said, not amused.
'What are you talking about?' Christina asked, Dani and Lauren sitting back in their seats awkwardly.
'You know exactly what I'm talking about.' Katherine said. 'Volunteering to fight at the club against a demon just so we can get inside. We don't know enough about any of this to be in there.'
'The best way to find out is to go in there and see it first hand.' Christina said.
'No it's not, and you know it. You're still punishing yourself.' Katherine said.
'We went over this Kath. I was punishing myself. I stopped eating, speaking to people. I isolated myself. That's over. I'm here with you guys and we're trying to stop demons.' She said.
'You keep telling yourself that Chris.' Katherine said. 'I think Anthony was right when he said you have a death wish.'
'Katherine.' Christina was about to talk to her when Anthony came over to the table.
'Is everything okay?' He asked, noticing the tense looks on their faces.
'It's fine.' Christina lied. She turned to him. 'Any news?'
'Yeah, I got an email and they're interested.' Anthony said. 'Never thought I'd see the day they let a witch fight.'
'What changed their minds?' Lisa asked.
'They know there's some really powerful witches running around London and I assured them that it was the most powerful one who want's to fight. They think it'll bring it a big crowd and lots of money.'
'I'll take that as a compliment.' Christina said sarcastically.
'Don't.' Anthony looked at her sternly. 'If you win they will not let you leave. They can't afford to be shown up by a witch. It would make a mockery of everything they've built.'
'It's a trap, Chris.' Amy said. 'If you lose you die, if you win they'll kill you.'
'If they're going to cheat, maybe we can?' Dani said.
'What do you mean Dan?' Katherine asked.
'There are a couple of spells in the book for boosting power.'
'Why have we never used them before?' Amy asked.
'Because of the way they work. One requires a blood sacrifice.' Dani recalled.
'That's not going to work.' Lisa said. 'What about the other one?'
'It needs power to give power. So basically one of us would have to give up our power to give to Chris.' Dani said, then she saw the looks on their faces and quickly continued. 'It's only temporary, the spell wares off and the power comes back.'
'Oh good.' Amy sighed. 'How long does it last?'
'I don't know. I guess it depends on the type and strength of power used.' Dani said.
'It's risky.' Lauren said. 'What if it runs out too soon?'
'That's a chance we'll have to take.' Chris said. 'But I wont take power from anyone who doesn't want to give it.'
