Lisa and Christina were walking out of the magic shop with a bag of supplies to make exploding and freezing potions. Steven hadn't spoken much after he found out Michelle had died, but he was helpful and smiled them off. 'You think he had a crush on mum?' Lisa asked as they walked in the rain.
'Oh definitely.' Christina smiled. 'He hadn't seen her in what, thirty years? You don't get that upset unless genuine feelings were involved at some point.'
'It's weird that he, of all people, is who we run into at a magic shop in London. What are the chances?'
'At least he wasn't a demon.' Christina shrugged.
'True.' Lisa smiled. They rounded a corner and were met with a loud bang coming from somewhere behind them. Lisa jumped, turning to face the noise. 'Not again.' She said quietly. Christina put the bag on the floor and started to walk back in the direction of the noise. Lisa followed, gently holding on to Christina's sleeve. They turned into a narrow street, lined each side with boarded up shop fronts covered in graffiti. There was a demon towering over a young man, who couldn't have been older then seventeen. He had a bright green forcefield around him, but it was flickering and not very stable. 'Wizard?' Lisa asked.
'Looks like it.' Christina agreed as she threw her hand out and sent the demon flying. Lisa looked at her.
'I always forget that you have telekinesis too.' Lisa commented. 'Can't I have an active power!' She said up to the heavens. The demon crashed heavily into one of the gates covering an old shop before turning to them and growling. He snarled like a wild dog and got to his feet. The kid was still cowering in his green bubble as the demon stomped up to them. He planted his feet and then let out an almighty roar. Christina put up a shield, but the power went right through it. There was nothing physical for her to block and it meant she and Lisa were sent back down the street, landing hard on the concrete. Lisa rolled over immediately and coughed, the wind knocked out of her. Christina got to her knees and was looking down the road. The demon had razor sharp claws and was thrashing at the boy's forcefield, trying to get to him.
'Lisa, stay here.' Christina said.
'No problem.' Lisa wheezed, moving to the side of the street, rain still pouring down. Christina walked towards the demon.
'Why don't you pick on someone your own size?' She said to him. She was met with a snarled smile, teeth twisted outside his mouth. He opened his jaws and began to shoot bullet like teeth towards her. 'Shit!' Christina said, putting up her shield and deflecting them away. Luckily this time it worked. Whilst she was busy, the demon managed to slice through the boy's energy. Christina sent one blast of her own power towards him, but he stuck out one arm and deflected it easily.
'How many powers does this guy have!?' Lisa wondered from her position out of the way at the end of the road. Christina set herself and sent out more energy, feeling a little of the amulet power working inside of her. She sent the blue energy towards the demon just as he sliced across the boy's arm. The boy yelled in pain but was quickly blinded by blue light, the demon flying away from him. He landed with a thump again but was right back up on his feet.
'Seriously!' Christina mumbled to herself. 'Run if you can!' She called to the boy.
'Don't..... don't let him scratch you.' The boy said weakly, his eyes fluttering open and closed. 'P...p....poison.....' He said, convulsing on the ground.
'No.' Christina said taking a step towards him. The demon was up and facing her, shooting another roar from his mouth before she could do anything else. She knew there was no point trying to block it and the power sent her crashing into a metal shutter protecting the front of another shop. Raindrops shook from it, soaking her further. She landed on the ground and could vaguely hear Lisa yelling her name, but she was only watching the demon. Her vision was blurry, and her mind was racing as she watched him kneel in front of the wizard and start sucking out a green haze from him. Christina realised that the demon was taking his power. Christina felt Lisa's hands on her shoulders, shaking her, willing her to move.
