He struggled to sit up. he pulled the hem of the hospital gown up, keeping the blankets around his waist. he grimaced and squirmed. The bandages came into veiw.
"Spencer, what were you thinking?" I touched my fingertips to the giant red spot on the bandages. I looked at the red that was now a part of my skin.
He grunted as he repositioned himself to sit up. "I was trying to help. She got scared, and struggled, making him shoot."
I wiped the blood off on my jeans, which left long, dark red lines on my thigh. "Spencer, I'm so glad you're okay." I leaned towards him, giving him another kiss on the cheek. I sat back an yawned, covering my face with my hands.
"You should go back to the BAU. You need some sleep."
"I'm not leaving you, Spence. I don't want to leave." I saw the pain leave, only to be replaced by a kind of sadness. A sad smile made it's way across his lips, and I couldn't help but mimic it.
"Can I say something, Caroline?" his hand was still on my cheek, thumb running across my cheekbone. I leaned into his touch, close my eyes and murmured, "sure, Spence."
He licked his lips. "well, if it makes you uncomfortable, I don't want to force you to be okay with it." I opened my eyes and looked at him.
"Explain, please."
He swallowed, and his pulse jumped. "I- Im just glad you are safe."
I sighed. "okay. is that it, then?" I laid down along his side, resting my head on his chest, draping my arm lightly over the uninjured section of his abdomen. "you are the only person to ever make me feel safe, Spencer."
I felt his body get warm under me, and heard the heart minister begin to race.
"Damn monitor," he muttered, the words sounding deeper and muffled through his chest.
"You shouldn't swear, Spence." I yawned and closed my eyes, eventually falling asleep.
