Somewhere in Vancouver, Canada.
"Okay, Ruby, are you ready?"
"Just one second, Marcos," she answers while the makeup artist fixes her red lipstick and the hairdresser combs her red wig carefully around her mask with pointy ears. "I'm ready, where do you want me?" she asks walking slowly through the massive set while holding her cape, her black boots with red details don't make any noise on the concrete floor. It's been two weeks since they started shooting the second season of Batwoman and she already misses her girlfriend, dogs and kids terribly. They're always sending her texts, pics, videos of her pets and funny memes, of course, but it's not the same that being with them in LA... she's even missing Jin and Cookie Monster's arguments and Kat's efforts to hide the fact that she keeps a bunny hidden in her bedroom. Fortunately, she gets on well with her workmates and they help her when she's feeling down taking her out for dinner when their hectic schedule allows it but she knows tomorrow will be hard: she has the day off and it's her birthday but she's miles away from the people she loves the most. Well, actually it'll be past midnight in a few minutes so she's going to start the celebration working and then sleeping in in the morning.
"There's a mark on the ground. You have to remain still there looking up at that window, your arch enemy Alice has just left this old factory through that hole and you nearly caught her but she escaped... show your frustration to the camera." Ruby follows the director orders and stops on the mark looking up: the factory is massive and the only well-lit spots are the window and Batwoman herself while the back of the big building, old machines and huge wooden boxes can't be seen in the dark. Luckily, someone had the brilliant idea of bringing some heaters and the cold isn't unbearable like it happened with other locations these past weeks. "Ready... sound... camera... and action!"
"Surprise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Suddenly, all the lights turn on and the old factory seems to come to life, confetti is falling over Batwoman from the high ceiling and some colourful balloons are flying around. Ruby turns her head trying to identify the reason why there's a hell of a noise coming from her back and she finds out a crowd clapping their hands and cheering, holding big signs covered in glitter saying 'Happy Birthday,' massive tables about to collapse under the weight of food and drinks, some dogs running around barking excited and the last person she'd expect to find in Vancouver looking at her with tears in her eyes.
"¿Mum?" she asks in disbelief getting closer slowly, still in a daze.
"Hello, sweetheart. Happy birthday..."
"Mum! What are you doing here?" Ruby hugs the blonde lady tight despite she's wearing her uncomfortable costume and seems to understand what's happening finally. "Wait! Nina, Vin... what are you doing in Canada? Morgan and Riawna are here too? And... Ru!" She kneels down to pet her excited dog before looking up to find Jin holding Chance in her arms. "Oh my God, my baby is here! All my babies are here!" She cries when she realizes that Cookie Monster is also holding the squirrel. "How is this even possible?"
"It was momma's idea," answers Kat who's trying to stop Charlie from chasing the squirrel. "She's been working on this surprise for weeks and we helped her..." she states proudly.
"Really? I guess I should forgive you for lying to me about that bunny, then..." The young Moroccan gets pale before nodding anxiously. "Where's Iselen?" She looks around but her lovely girlfriend is nowhere to be seen.
"She's over there, lighting the candles of your vegan red velvet cake... she told me that she wanted to give us some time together because it's been a while since the last time I saw my daughter. This new girl of yours is really sweet and thoughtful, I hope you keep this one... I like her." Katia smiles amused shoving Ruby towards one of the tables full of food and turns around to smile at the three brats. "Do you really have a bunny? I'd love to see her..."
