I'm having so much fun writing this story... (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵)ﻭ
Somewhere in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles.
"Listen Cookie, I know she's cute but we can't afford having another pet..." Iselen shakes her head helplessly... the young girl's pout is very difficult to resist.
"But her name's Xander... we can't abandon a squirrel called Xander on a shelter..." it's pretty obvious judging by her tone of voice that she's about to cry. Iselen gives up immediately.
"All right...I'm done... you want the squirrel, you get it..." Cookie's wide smile spreads across her face and her beautiful grey eyes shine of happiness. "BUT... you're in charge of her. You'll feed her, clean her cage and take care that Lucifer doesn't try to bite her... That little demon tried to eat the ferret once."
"Yes, momma. You're the best!" The girl rushes to find the animal shelter manager. "Hey, Rylee! Give me the papers of the squirrel for Iselen to sign, she's going to stay with us. Yay!"
The brunette woman shakes her head again looking at the blue sky, disappointed with herself for not being able to resist Cookie's charm. One day she'll need to impose order and some rules in this house, but that's not going to happen anytime soon apparently. She looks around trying to spot the other two spoiled brats but her backyard is packed with guests today and it's not an easy task. Her birthday pool party is in full swing right now and all the shelter staff and volunteers are having fun, eating, dancing and playing with the ginormous inflatable unicorns. Her lawyers are also here with their families along with the girls who help once a week with the house cleaning, some Cookie's class mates and the next door neighbours... and their dogs, cats, bunnies and even a parrot because it's a pet friendly party. They've been living in LA for a few weeks and they don't know many people here but still they managed to hold a good party.
"Iselen, do you have more of these Sweet Potato "Quesadillas"? Who would have thought that they'd taste delicious without the cheese. I didn't know you were vegan." A blond short-haired girl with stunning green eyes gets closer holding some papers in her hand.
"I'm not Rylee, I'm just lactose intolerant but vegan food is the best to make sure I won't get sick tomorrow in case someone uses butter to bake puff pastry accidentally. Are those papers the ones I have to sign?" She asks walking to the kitchen where trays of snacks are covering every surface of the counter.
"Yes. The kids won again, didn't they?" She laughs quietly.
"They always do..." answers Iselen rolling her eyes.
In the meantime, on the other side of the backyard...
"Rylee is into momma..."
"Oh come on, Kat. You think love is always in the air..." the Asian girl crosses her arms over her chest fidgeting on her seat. Both are sitting on a sunbed sharing a bowl of Baba ganoush where they're dipping some flat bread but, contrary to the lively atmosphere around them, the girls aren't smiling or having fun.
"I tell you she likes momma but you know she's too scatterbrained to notice. I'm not happy with this, I was hoping for her to..."
"I know, me too... but that won't happen sis..." Both girls purse their lips in disappointment. "To hell with this bowl... we need some chocolate cake, let's call momma so she can blow the candles... well, actually one big ass candle. If we put 39 candles on her cake we could burn the house."
