As we walk through the door something hit me like a truck. I fall to the floor. "Emery, what's wrong?" Logan asks with worry flashing in his eyes. "My stomach hurts." I say on the brink of tears from the searing pain. "When was the last time you fed?" He asked. I shake my head. I'm not sure what he is talking about. "You know blood. When is the last time you drank any?" He takes me up in his arms and brings me to the couch. He left my side heading into the kitchen. He came back with a cup red liquid. He hands it to me but I don't reach for it. I just shake my head. "Don't be stubborn right now Emery. You need this if you want to survive." He says. I can hear the worry in his tone. "I can't. It's not right." I say shaking my head. I want to cry. I can't be the monster that I already know I am and taking that from Logan will make it true. "Emery, Please take this." He tries to hand me the glass again. I push it away and it shatters on the floor. He doesn't even look at the blood as it soaks into the white carpet. I push myself off the couch. "I can't be the monster I already know I am." I say as I walk to the window. He just watches me. "You are not a monster. You are something people wish they could be. You are special." He says. The pain makes its way back. I clench my stomach and almost fall to the floor but before I can Logan is at my side. He lifts me up in his arms and takes me to my room. He lays me on the bed. He sits on the edge. "You need to drink in order to live and to rule your people." He says. I finally agree because this searing pain is clouding my thoughts. Logan left the room.
When Logan comes back he has a new class in his hand. I sigh and take it from him. The liquid tastes sweet. When it slides down my throat the pain stops and becomes a desire. I want more. "You want more?" He asks as he takes the glass from me. I nod eagerly. He leads me down stairs and into the kitchen. He opens the fridge and there were a ton of blood bags. He take one out and puts it into a glass. I slowly drink it. As I finish the glass the lingering pain in my shoulder intensifies. I grab onto it. Logan rushes to my side and moves my shirt over. "The mark of the queen." Is all he say as if that is supposed to explain everything. "What?" I ask breathing heavily from the pain.
"The mark of the queen appears after her transformation is sealed with blood. The marks prove that she is actually the queen and not someone trying to play the part." He explains. I nod as I look down at it. Three bats now line my collar bone.
We sit in the living room and he explains things about drinking blood. Yes I need it to survive. Yes, human blood is better than animal blood. Animal blood is bitter and can upset the stomach. I feel my eyes get heavy as he explains things to me.
