The Vin groaned uncomfortably in his bed, doctors were doing all they could, but his fate was nearly decided.
"My heir," he managed to say.
"Charleston will be an excellent heir to the throne." The assistant said, his voice barely quaking at the thought of that bumbling fool taking the Vin's place.
"No," the Vin began again, he thought some more about what he was to say next. He knew however once it was said there was no going back, he needed to sound absolutely certain, or they would not take to his decision.
Suddenly his heart gave out, pain mangled his face as he lurched in his bed. He groaned loudly, letting out his last gust of breath his eyes closed into his unending sleep.
Dead, was the Vin.
Lisa was shaken awake, she turned over trying her best to fall back to her peaceful slumber. She was then nearly thrown to the floor, she whipped her head angrily towards the person doing this trauma.
Her faced mirrored confusion, but she quickly got the memo from the expression on Candala's face. They were to flee, or they were to die.
Quickly she put on a outfit fit for being in the woods, a thick jacket, and some worn leather boots. She pulled together a knapsack of some food and weapons, along with a change of clothes and a very small, but adorable pillow she had found on her bed. On a whim she grabbed a opal necklace she thought maybe they could sell to get some money if needed, then they quickly went out the door.
The early morning air hit Lisa briskly, she pulled the edges of her jacket closer to her and followed Candala to the thick of the woods. It felt surreal and a bit spooky being there in the darkness of the early morning hours, Lisa looked nervously around hoping Candala knew where she was going and they would not have to be here long.
"Why don't we go to my farm?" Lisa said in hushed tones to Candala, she ached for the smell of the land and the familiarity of her home.
"That could work, it will be a long journey, but no one will think to go there." Candala sputtered with the last of her confidence.
"Do you know how to get there from here?" Candala asked, worry etched in her voice and face.
"As long as you can take me back to the market, I can get there." Lisa smiled. Home. Finally.
