Lisa walked through the once colorful streets, it was night time and most of the vendors had closed their shops, but a few persisted determined to tend to the scarce night crowd. She thought of how different this place was from Lamdon and her home, how light everything felt and how different the relationship of the people and their ruler was.
Lisa sat in a chair by a friendly looking person, although after hearing about the Vin she was treated like royalty by everyone.
Candala was asleep the minute her head hit the pillow, but woke a few hours later, she was being treated wonderfully although there was a seed of doubt in her that the Vin was dead. She did shoot him in the head, but she never saw the light go out of his eyes, or his last breath. It was all ruined by the last minute change in venue.
She tossed and turned as she wanted to go back to sleep, but all she could think of was the idea of him surviving what should have been a fatal shot. Everything would fall to shambles, there would be a huge war against Blackgra with a seething Vin determined to destroy them, she however would not be there to see that, the shame of failing this would not end well. The Vindress would be beyond mad, calling for Candala's head.
Candala thought of fleeing, but where would she go? She thought of many things before eventually falling back into an exhausted sleep.
Morning came to quickly for both Candala and Lisa.
Lisa turned trying to ignore the sounds of the market place opening, she had begone to hear a few people setting up, but a sudden rush of sound cut short the idea of a few more hours rest. She stretched and sat up giving in to the morning. Even after staying in the fortress for a week she still could not believe the comforts of the feathered bed and the richness of the food.
She had just finished getting ready to head down and eat some breakfast, when a messenger burst through the door.
"A letter has arrived," he began, "a letter--from Lamdon."
Sorry for the short chapter, the next one will definitely be longer!
