Vincent laughed, "Let's chill out. We have a long time to cross off anything else you want."
I sighed, "Fine... What are we going to do now?"
Vincent opened his mouth, about to answer, when my phone started ringing.
"And I don't get waves of missing you anymore, they're more like tsunami tides in my eyes"
I looked at my phone and sighed as Sammy Whammy<3 flashed across the screen. I looked over at Vincent and he mouthed, "Answer it."
He didn't even know who it was or why they were calling but he still wanted my to answer. My ringtone cut off as I answered the call.
"Hello." I said, taking a big breath in. I heard Sam breathe out, "Danielle. Thank god."
I didn't know what to say.. I didn't want to start crying so I stayed quiet, waiting for Sam to start talking again.. which he did.
"Tell me where you are, Danielle. I'll pick you up. C'mon."
"Sam..."
"Danielle, just tell me."
"STOP IT SAM." I yelled, making Vincent go tense. I sighed and mouthed a sorry to Vincent then turned my attention back to Sam, "I'm sorry."
I didn't wait to hear what he had to say before I hung up.
I looked over at Vincent, who tried his best NOT to look at me.
"I'm sorry." I repeated, but this time to the boy in front of me. He weakly smiled, "It's fine. I know you won't tell me what that was about, so i'm not even going to ask."
I laughed, "You basically just did."
He laughed back, "Oops."
I looked down at my legs, not knowing what to talk about now.
"I have cancer." I blurted out. I put my hands over my mouth as Vincent turned to me. I shut my eyes, not wanting to see his reaction. I felt his cold hand grab mine and his lips were soon kissing my hand, "Yet you're out here, being strong. You're awesome."
I opened my eyes to see him smiling at me, making me smile back, "I'm not awesome."
His smile grew wider, "Fishing for compliments, I see."
I shoved his shoulder, "Shush. I.. I can't believe you're not acting in a different way. Not to be like, cocky or anything, but I thought you'd be crying."
He frowned, "Why would I cry? I know you'll make it through this."
I figured that this wouldn't be a good time to mention that I basically had a death sentence.
----
"You can sleep here." Vincent said, opening his room to me. I turned to him, "And where will you be sleeping?"
"Living room." Vin said. I frowned, "Won't your parents be upset?"
"Don't worry about them."
"You keep saying that." the frown staying on my face. His hand reached up and ruffled my hair as he smiled, "Then stop asking."
I growned, "Fine."
"Good night." He said, closing the door behind him. I set my duffle bag on the floor and looked around, laughing at this typical boy room. His blue sheets and dark blue walls. Trophies lined his whole dresser. I ran my fingers over them, remembering how Sam had all of his baseball trophies lined up on his dresser... until they got knocked down... or atleast thats what he told me. After seeing those bruises on him, I was starting to think that they didn't just fall down on their own.
I wiped away the tears that had quickly fallen and yawned, suddenly feeling tired. I laughed at myself realizing the big day I had today. I changed into my pj's and climbed into his bed, pulling his cover over my body all the way up to my head. I breathed in, taking in his scent.
I giggled again, thinking about what a stalker I must have looked like. I reached for my phone, that was in my jeans pockets. I unlocked it and looked at the messages I had. A lot from Sam. I considered calling him back, but decided against it. I'll give him time to calm down before I call him. I looked at my other messages and picked one out from Rachel.
From: Ratchet Rachel
Danielle, please call me. or text me, or tweet me. plz, we're dying here.
I laughed at the irony of it.
Because I was the one who was truly dying.
