After a long day of painting I was exhausted. Mom says it’d be a bad idea to sleep in my room because of the fumes from the paint which I considered complete bullcrap.
So looks like I’ll have a sleepless night on the couch, watching as many episodes of The Walking Dead as possible. It had to be my favorite show at the moment. I mean hey, what can I say I’m all about that zombie thing.
I plumped myself down on the couch, grabbing my blanket and pulling it across me. I reached over for my phone to turn down the brightness. Right before I locked it up, a notification popped across the top of my screen. I went straight to Facebook to find a friend request from Drake Johnson.
A smile quickly came to my face, of course I had to confirm it. I clicked on his name and literally spend half an hour going through this boy’s page. What was wrong with me?
As soon as I laid my phone on the table, another notification went off on my phone. I sighed. Sitting up again, I grabbed my phone. The screen read I had a Facebook message… from Drake.
I unlocked it, and it sent me straight to Facebook. And I read “Hey, its paint boy Haha. I’d really like to hang out with you sometime, you know without embarrassing one another. Well anyways could you meet me somewhere tomorrow?” I chuckled at his message, and then responded. “ Haha, sure. Meet me at the beach tomorrow at 2. You’ve got some showing around to do.” He replied after I sent that, with a smiley face.
I woke up in a panic, with a sore aching back. The smell of fresh cooked pancakes was spreading through the air. I sat up and looked in the kitchen to find my mother on her phone.
“Look who’s finally up.” said mom. “What time is it?” I asked with a groan. “It’s around twelve thirty.” She replied as she made her way into the living room. “Great, I got ago get ready.” “for what?” she asked out of curiosity.
“Oh im meeting someone at the beach”
“Hmm, don’t do anything I wouldn’t.”
“Mom… Really?” I said making my way up the steps. I heard her laugh at me from behind.
I made my way to my room, which was finally aired out from the painting I had done. I looked through several still packed boxes searching for an outfit. I finally found something I liked. I chose my converse, which were white. I also chose denim shorts with a few tear in them. And last but not least a cute light weight read and white flannel, with a white tank for underneath.
I turned on the water for a shower adjusting it to fit my needs. My clothes dropped to the floor, as I stepped in. The warm water hit my cool body, which made Goosebumps appear all over. Showers were amazing really, they could make you sound like a pro at singing, and also were get for thinking…
After the shower, and after I was ready I read the time which was one, fifteen. I wore my hair in long loose curls, and not a lot of makeup. And honestly I was very nervous; my heart was beating faster than a cheetah hunting its prey.
Right before I was about to leave, I grabbed an apple to go. “Have fun!” Mom yelled.
“Always.” I replied shutting the door behind me.
I got in my car, and started it up. I sat there for a minute adjusting the radio and such things. I remember when I was younger and couldn’t wait to drive. Well its not as fun as I thought it’d be when I was younger.
I had a bright Red Ford Fusion .. It wasn’t the best, but it got me where I needed to be.
The drive took about 10 mins, so that meant I was early. I arrived at the beach to find it quite empty. I parked the car, and placed my shoes in the passenger floor board. I decided to take a alk down to the water.
The sun was hot, shining down on the sand which also made the sand warm. I made my way to the water letting the waves wash upon my feet. The water was cool. I walked back and sat down about half way up the beach. The sand felt good between my toes.
I sat there letting the air from the water blow on my face. Finally, I heard someone from behind. I turned to see Drake. I turned to face the water, hiding the huge smile on my face.
He sat himself down right next to me. “Hey Al.” He said staring into the distance.
“What did you just call me?” I asked stubbornly.
He looked at me with a smile. “You heard me, c’mon don’t act like you didn’t like it.” He said as he shoved me with his arm.
“I never said I didn’t.”
“Exactly.” He replied.
“So what are we going to do today?” I asked.
“Well I was thinking; just get to know each other.” He said as he lay back stretching out in the sand.
“Alright then, you first.”
“Me?”
“It was your idea wasn’t it?” I replied
“Well If you say so Al.” He smiled.
“Go on.” I said.
“So, I’m drake obviously. I live with my dad, who is fighting cancer at the moment. Ever since he was diagnosed it’s just like the floor fell from beneath me… My mom died a few years ago in a car accident. It’s been really hard without her. And dad, he is getting worse every day…” his voice cracked, and he paused.
I placed my hand on his shoulder. “You don’t have…”
“No, it’s fine I just, im sorry.” He replied.
“Don’t be, really it’s fine.” I said. I never realized how lucky I was until now. I can’t imagine a life without my mom. She’s my rock, my everything.
He broke the silence between us… “Sometimes life can be a real bitch, but… All you can do is sit back and let it do its thing…”
I didn’t say anything… I mean I didn’t know what to say. So all I did was hug him. Because I knew I couldn’t change the past no matter how much I wish I could have for him. What’s done is done. And in that moment… right there, on that beach is when I believe, I had started an adventure of feelings for this boy… And I sure was in for it.
