Sponsor scores are here to take away yout kill count. There are three sponsors therfore three is the maximum score you can get. Each sponsor was given SIX points. They then picked six tributes to place odds and bets for them to win.
Now this is how it helps you; If you are killed FIVE times in that task and your tribute has TWO Sponsor scores, then it will take two away from your kill count thus leaving you with three deaths and not five.
