I squinted my eye from the bright light and hissed from the pain to my face and neck. "Charlie?" I whispered, consumed with pain, fear and confusion.

My eyes fully adjusting to the light, I saw Kate, Lane, Dylan and all the parents just watching me. She looked like hell, they all did.

"Do you remember?" Kate asked softly.

"Are you thirsty?" Lane questioned in a whisper.

"Are you in pain?" Dylan asked softly, brushing my hand with his fingers.

They all talked at once.

I pulled my hand back, furrowing my eyebrows, "Yes", I answered, well squeaked, with the need for water.

"Lane give her water, Dylan hit the call button to let the nurse know she's awake" Kate demanded shakily.

She took my hand and broke down with her face on the edge of my bed, as I stroked her hair.

"I'm okay Kate, please stop crying?" I asked softly.

She looked up with tears falling,

"You've been through so much, and now all this, I..." She started and broke down again.

"I'm fine, y'all got there before... Anyway... Its my fault" I ended flatly, squeezing my eyes shut.

"Its my fault, not yours and I'm sorry... I'm so sorry" Dylan said softly, eyes pleading, he looked broken.

I just stared at him. "I was a mess long before you, you're not at fault. If anything, it's how I responded to being let down again... That's on me, not you. I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up so quickly" I spoke softly, honestly- this isn't his fault.

He just looked at the floor with his elbows on his knees and head down in his hands. I reached for his hand and squeezed it, as the nurse came in.

"I'm gonna need to do an assessment, y'all will need to step out?" The older lady asked nicely. Both Kate and Lanes mothers kissed my forehead, Lane kissed my cheek, Kate pulled her head off my stomach, wiped her tears and told me how much she loves me and Dylan lifted my chin up and ran his fingertips down my cheek.

The nurse had done an assessment and helped me to the bathroom. Looking in the mirror, I gaped at the bruising to my left cheek and the many stitches to my neck on the same side."Jesus... I look like I've been to war... How long was I asleep?" I softly asked the nurse. As she was about to reply, the doctor came in, "Let's get you back in bed and we will talk, okay? The nurse asked with help of the doctor.

I had been helped to bed, shifted comfortable, explained that everything was okay, I had blacked out from stress, and been allowed to wake up on my own. It had been about 2 days, but I was assured that sometimes this was a normal response to such a high amount of stress. I had an ugly bruised cheek and 17 stitches that would desolve on their own to the left side of my neck. They gave me some pain meds in my IV, and the door burst open with Kate, Lane, Dylan and food.

We just ate, well, they ate. I nibbled on a roll and drank some water, until they ganged up on me. I gave into their pleading looks and begging remarks and ate a few bites. When I started to feel my eyes close, I pushed the tray away and laid back . I turned on my right side to get comfortable when I heard Dylan sigh and saw Lane glare at him.

"Move your chair over her, I can't law on that side of my face... I'm not trying to be mean" I stated softly, and he did.

Our eyes met briefly, before I let mine close.
