#3: Lunch Time?

Homroom for ten minutes. A five minute transition. First class at 9:25 I had was chemistry. I grumbled in annoyance. I didn't have any classes where I had friends. Except homeroom. Yaaaay.
I walked into Ms. Lakitu's chem class and the first person I saw was Mario. I walked over to the desk beside him and sat down.
"Hey," I said, looking at him.
"Hey Pauline," Mario said, looking at me with an expression that said he was already done with school.
Mario and I aren't exactly friends, although we do hang out a bit at times. So I guess acquaintances.
"I wish... ugh, so many things," I sighed. "Can't we have one more week of summer?"
"Yes, is love that. It'd help Luigi chill a bit longer and stop stressing about every detail," the 16-year-old said.
Luigi. His little brother. He has reason to stress about everything, almost everyone picks on him, poor guy. I've tried to stop it. I really have, but it never works...
"Well... Luigi's entire age group is rowdy and crazy," I said instead, having promised not to tell Mario about the bullying. I wanted to, but then Luigi'd probably be hurt even more. "They're violent and rude, and extremely immature."
"Tell me about it," Mario hissed, a look of anger crossing his face. "I've met a few in the football team and when I had to present something for a project. His group is horrible. Thank the lord for Luigi, Boo and the Toad twins."
I was about to add something when the bell rang. Mario placed his index on his list and opened his notebook to a page, ready to take down the rules of the class and the needed materials.
"Hello class! I'm Ms. Lakitu, but some of you know me because of the environmental club I host," she started happily. "We'll start directly with the rules and materials, then we'll take attendance. First of all..."
I trailed off as she told the rules. I knew all of them. I just wanted to get through the first day.
Bowser
Period 1, math. Period 2, chemistry. Now? Lunch.
I met up with Waluigi and Wario, the Sophomore twins. They were annoying, extremely so, but they did anything I said, so I tolerated them.
"So, Bowser, isn't it great to be back?" Wario asked with obvious sarcasm. One of his few, and extremely few tolerable points.
"Beating someone up might make it better," I growled.
"How about we just bring out status of respect up first? So the other sophomores know their place?" Waluigi suggested.
"... yeah, let's do that," I said, slightly surprised at the lankier boy's smarts. Sometimes I wondered how lucky I was that Waluigi was on my side.
"Well, who are the ones who need the most recalling?" Wario asked.
"That loser Luigi already knows he's at the complete bottom of the food chain. So he can wait," I growled. "The two other twins, whatever their names are... they're 'non-gendery' or whatever."
"Toad and Toadette?"
"Yeah."
"Okay let's start with them."
Birdo
I tied my hair back in a ponytail in front of the bathroom mirror before heading for the cafeteria, humming a tune quietly. I went over to Toadette after spotting her.
"Dettie, hi!" I said happily.
"Hey there Birdo," she laughed (Toadette identifies with girls more so her pronoun will be she/her while Toad's will be he/him). "You're looking extremely happy today, why'd that?"
"Remember who we talked about last year?" I asked.
"You mean Yoshi?" she asked with a knowing expression. I nodded.
"We have a class together!"
"Oh? Which one is that?"
"Design! And the teacher paired us together! He's really extremely sweet, and-"
"Woah, hold your horses. Let's sit down and you can explain," Toadette laughed before we went to search for a table.
We found Luigi sitting alone with Boo (as per usual). The latter really spooked me. Boo freaked everyone out. He was quiet but had this... creepy aura to him, and anyone who stayed close to him for too long got extremely nervous and left.
No one could handle Boo's quiet, because everyone thought he was judging them. Although somehow, he and Luigi got along just fine. They were complete opposites, and Luigi was the most nervous person anyone would ever meet.
"How does Luigi even tolerate Boo's silent manner?" I whispered.
"Whaddya mean?" Dettie asked curiously.
"Don't you think he should be getting nervous breakdowns or something?"
"I dunno. But I'm fine with Boo as well, I don't know why everyone freaks out." She sighed before heading towards their table.
Curious, I followed. "Hey," Dettie said with a smile. Luigi jumped and looked up.
"A-ah! Toadette, B-Birdo, h-hey..." he stammered, embarrassed. Boo looked up with a look of annoyance but said nothing.
"Could we sit with you?" Toadette asked.
"Well," Boo spoke up, surprising me. He rarely talked, same with Luigi, but the smaller nervous one at least tried to talk with Toadette since they were friends. "Sure. The more the merrier." He rolled his eyes.
"U-Umm, w-well my brother and Y-Yoshi a-a-are..." Luigi tried, although his eyes kept darting to me then back to Toadette, and I saw he was getting nervous.
"Mario and Yoshi are coming over in a bit, but sit down if you really want to," Boi finished before going back to his silence.
"W-what he s-said," Luigi murmured.
"Thank you!" Dettie said cheerfully before shooting me a look that said 'don't you dare go all lovey-dovey on Yoshi cuz otherwise everyone will be uncomfortable.' I nodded and sat down, taking out my phone to wait and let Dettie and Luigi have a conversation.
I had successfully tuned myself out when I heard an annoyed 'ugh' cons from Boo and looked up to see a face that said 'not this guy again.' Luigi looked somewhat terrified.
"Hi!" a new boy said, looking at us hopefully.
"Umm, hi," I said, being the oldest. "Cllpdan I help you?"
"Yes, actually!" the boy said. "I was wondering if one of you could bring me to the principal's office? Or at least give me directions?"
"I could do that." Luigi almost fell off the bench at this point. He'd been startled 3 times in less than 10 minutes, poor guy.
I turned around and saw Luigi's older brother Mario and the one and only Yoshi.
My heart skipped a beat.
"Great! Thank you!" the sophomore boy said happily. "Oh, and it was nice seeing you again Boo!"
"You... you know him?" Luigi asked quietly.
"Sadly yes."
