Echoes of Thunder

This will be the first chapter of many. I will make one chapter for each episode of The Dragon Prince.

I jumped over a fallen tree then turned back to it. I places my hands onto its trunk and whispered encouraging words. The roots dug themselves back into the ground and the tree brought itself upright again.

I ran towards the Moonshadow Camp of six elves and stopped when I saw a tent. It was night and the moon was bright.

I willed myself to go into my camouflaged state. All Earth Elves could camouflage with their surroundings, just as long as they were in contact with the earth, since it was source of our power.

I saw the elves and snuck up behind them. They were watching a human. The human knew they were there, for sure.

Rayla ran at the man so I ran after her.

The man tripped then got up again. Rayla jumped from tree to tree in pursuit of the man.

The man fell into a ditch and into a muddle of muddy water.

He tried to fight off Rayla but she quickly disarmed him and had her swords (idk what they are) to his neck.

My eyes widened slightly, even though I knew this would happen. But Rayla didn't kill him. She stepped back and the man ran away.

"Good job, Ray," I said, making myself go back into my normal colors.

"Where you watching me this whole time?" Rayla asked, turning to me.

"Yep," I said. "I was surprised that you didn't hear me."

Rayla sighed and asked, "What am I going to tell Runaan?"

"You'll figure something out," I said.

Rayla ended up finding a berry bush and covering her swords with the juice to look like blood.

It was genius.

Rayla walked back to her camp looking proud, with me camouflaging myself as I followed her.

Rayla started to walk past him.

"Well done, Rayla," Runaan said.

"Yeah," Rayla said, turning to Runaan. "I used both of them?"

"I can see that," Runaan said, tossing Rayla a cloth to clean off the "blood".

Runaan kills humans all the time, yet he can't even tell the difference between berry juice and blood.

Rayla cleaned off her swords then walked past the other Moonshadow Elves, who gave her nods of approval.

I waited for Rayla to get far enough away from the others so I could talk to her.

"Genius," I said, becoming normal colored again. "Did I mention you were a genius?"

"I think you did," Rayla said, flipping her swords shut.

"Well, you are," I said. "Extra points for not killing that guy."

"What if he tells the other humans?" Rayla asked me. "Then Runaan will know that I didn't kill that guy. He will be sooo mad at me. He might even kill me."

"He wouldn't do that," I said. "At least, I don't think he would."
