The chill of the early morning air on Luka's pale skin help the body clear his head. The downworlder sighed as he pulled out his phone, dialing Clary's number, hoping she'd be awake. To his surprise, she was. "Luka, are you okay?! What's wrong?!" The young downworlder suppress a laugh at the worried tone of Clary's voice. "Nothing's wrong Red, I was just wondering what you were doing. But you sound tired. Did I wake you?" He continued walking his feet guiding him towards the shadowhunter institute. "N-No, you didn't." Luka frowned, "Red what's wrong? Did something happened?"
"I don't know... I-I--" The downworlder cut of his friend, "Clary. I'm close to the institute. Do you want me to drop by so we can talk about this in person?" His tone was soft. "Yeah... That would be great." Luka smiled slightly, "Okay, I'll see you soon Red." Hanging up the phone Luka decided to just portal to Clary's position. So, that's what he did. His red haired friend was standing in a room, Jace holding the necklace Jocelyn had given her in his hand. Luka's eyebrow raised slightly, "Uh... What did I just teleport into?" Jace and Clary looked at me, "And why do you have Clary's necklace?" Clary looked at me, "I saw Valentine, he called out my name and then said, 'Your mother for the cup.'" Luka took a sharp breath, "Damn that monster straight to the darkest depths of Tartarus. So Valentine is with Jocelyn?" The red haired girl nodded, "Great. Give me one more reason on the hundreds I all ready have to tear him limb from limb."
Luka heard footsteps behind, turning he saw Alec enter the room. Surprise was the first thing that Alec expirenced upon seeing the downworlder. Luka smile a little and waved, "Hey there Angel." Alec's cheeks went a little red as he cleared his throat, "Anyway, who said 'Your mother for the cup' and that Luka wants to kill?" The other three in the room all turned their heads to Alec, "Valentine." They said in unison. "He's with my mother." Clary elaborated. "And he can speak to you trough that necklace? Here in the institute?" Alec asked and Luka could already see where this was going, "It's like when I saw Dot." Luka raised his hand, "That would be because it's a portal shard. It let's you see someone your thinking of. We... uh... never found how it worked exactly, but I know that much. I didn't think the people you saw would be able to see you though... Interesting." Luka explained. The three shadowhunters looked at him and he shrugged, "Jocelyn use to let me look at it and run experiments with Dot's supervision. I'm part Warlock, so I wanted to know how it worked."
"All I know is what I saw. My mother's alive. She's unconscious, but alive." As Clary spoke, Luka flinched, knowing Jocelyn must have drunk the postion and also just how hard it would be to wake her. However the downworld couldn't bring himself to tell that to Clary right now, not wanting to ruin her mood. "Where are they?" Alec being as serious as ever, asked. "I-I don't know." Clary stuttered. "But you said you saw them. Were there any identifying characteristics? Equipment, weapons, photographs?" As Alec questioned, Luka could see the stress on his friend's face. "I don't remember. It was awful." Jace looked at his parabatai, "Alec, lighten up."
"I'm trying to get something we can use out of this." Alec voice was strong and almost frustrated in tone, "Clary, what did you see, exactly?" Luka could see that Clary was getting sick of the converstation, "Valentine has my mother. That's what I saw." Alec was looking down at Clary, "Emotions are nothing but a distraction. You're ruled by them." Luka almost wanted to laugh at the old concept he would hear from so many shadowhunters years ago, hearing it now only brought him bittersweet memories. "We're taught to control them." Alec continued. "And how is that working out for ya?" Clary sassed back. If the room wasn't so tense, Luka would have given the girl a high five. Alec was less impressed, "It is my job to protect the institute. If Valentine can see in, that's a door I have to shut. Now... let me take a look at that thing."
Reluctantly, Jace handed the necklace over. "Now it's in the proper hands." Alec began to leave walk away. Luka had a barely visible frown form on his face as Clary hurried after the boy, "Hey! Alec!" Jace looked at the downworlder and with a sigh the two followed Clary. "Where are you going?" The four walked through the institute. Luka felt the eyes of the other shadowhunters watching him as he passed, "To put this somewhere safe. Where no one could be tempted to use it." Jace grabbed Alec's arm, "We should use it. Alec we should use it to get to Valentine." Luka sighed as the shadowhunters argued, walking beside Clary and taking hold of her hand to try and clam the girls tension. "If I were Valentine, I'd make you think that you could rescue Jocelyn. And then I'd lure Clary to meand leverage her life for the cup." Alec opened a compartment in the floor as they all came to a stop.
Clary removed her hand from Luka's and stepped forward, "I like Jace's idea. We saved Simon from the vampires that way." Luka's eyes went wide, "Wait what?! What happened with Simon?" He asked. Jace turned to him, "The mundane was kidnapped and we saved him." Luka's eyes flashed silver as he glared at nothing inparticular, "Camille..." He growled. "Yeah... vampires." Alec started, completely ignoring the slightly pissed downworlder beside Jace, "Bored, decadent, self-involved vampires." Alec placed the necklace in the compartment as Luka took a breath to calm himself, "Valentine is a real threat. He can't be handled by three-and-a-half shadowhunters and a downworlder." He cast his eyes to Luka, who to his surprise nodded in agreement. "I hate to say it Red, but Angel's right."
Heads snapped towards Luka as Clary and Jace looked at him with disbelief. This was the same guy who hated the Clave and the rules they made after all. "Luka. Really? So you don't even want to use it to try and save my mother?" Luka sighed, "Look Clary. You are new to all of this, I'm not. Unlike you I've met Valentine in person." He cast a small glamor to cover his runes before lifting up his shirt, showing the other three his many scars, "It was hell. I know you want to save Jocelyn and believe me I do to. She, Luke and Magnus saved me. They gave me a life when I wanted to give up. My family abandoned me, first to Valentine and then to a pack of wolves." Alec couldn't bring himself to look away, his curiousity about the downworlder growing every moment they were in the same room. "Clary, I know first hand the kind of monster we are trying to go up against, so please, just let this one go."
Clary wasn't surprised by the scars, she had seen them countless times before, no. It was the emotions that clearly rung out in his every word, With a sigh, Clary nodded. Luka smiled a little, messy the girls hair up a little, "We'll save her Red. We just have to wait for the right moment." Luka turned and began to leave, Alec not far behind. "Luka." The shadowhunter called out when they were in an area with very few people. The boy turned to the sound of his name and waved, "Hey there Angel. What's up?" Alec stood in front of the other and sighed, "I-I want to apologize for--" Luka place a finger in front of Alec lips, "You have nothing to apologize for. I don't blame you for what happened, so don't blame yourself." Alec still looked guilty so Luka lent down beside his ear, "If you still feel bad, then why don't you do me two things."
Alec felt his face flush as a shiver ran down his spine, "W-What?" Luka moved back and smiled, genuinly, at the shadowhunter. "One, do make the same mistakes I did so long ago." Alec frowned, slightly confused by the request, "And two, let me help you with what you are doing today. I want to get my mind of some stuff." Alec's frown was replaced by a small smile as he nodded. The two walking off together.
