I Didn't Mean To Like You

A Mid-Summer Nights Dream

JUGHEAD POV(time jump to 2 weeks later)

It has come, they day of the play. Betty, Kevin, and everyone else were over the moon excited. It looked like a fun play, but Shakespeare isn't my cup of tea. But Betty liked his plays and I had to film it.

The curtain was closed and people were arriving. I was backstage filming people putting makeup on and practicing their lines. Kevin has put a lot of work into this play and I hope it doesn't get ruined. I then stopped recording for the moment and someone covered my eyes.

"Guess who?" The girl laughed.

"Let me guess...The daughter of Egeus, Hermia?" I said. Betty uncovered my eyes and took my hand. We peeked around the curtain and she had a wide smile.

"That woman right there, with the lady holding to babies, and the boy playing on his phone. That's my family."

"What about your father? Can't be a perfect family without all the family members?"

"I really don't want to talk about him...what about your family, Juggie?"

"They're the ones that definitely look like they don't want to be here. Oh my gosh, they brought popcorn. They think it's gonna be boring." I nodded and snickered. Betty snickered also and then we saw Archie run up to us.

"Hey Betty, do you want to go over lines? I could use practice."

"Sure! I'll see you after the play." Betty said. She kissed my cheek and then went off. I sighed and went into the front row so I could record the play. The lights dimmed and the audience went silent...let the show begin.

We were 15 minutes in...when I noticed something. Toni and Fangs had a bucket and were getting ready to pour something on Betty's head. I stopped recording and immediately ran up. I went to the very top where you could watch the play right below.

"Fangs, Toni! What are you doing!?"

"We're getting ready to pour pigs blood on little Miss perfect. She's also known as your new girlfriend or something." Fangs scoffed.

"We don't get you! One minute you're being our friend and having fun with Cooper. The next minute, you're kissing up to her. I don't get it!" Toni cried.

"I've changed. Also, you guys got me in Community Service! What friends do that?"

"We talked to the Serpents and you have to make a decision. You can either be a Serpent or friends with Freak...but not both." Toni said. I couldn't hurt Betty but I loved being a Serpent. I walked over and to the bucket of pigs blood. I poured it off the stage right onto Betty's head. The crowd gasped and screamed and Betty looked up. We were locking eyes and that's when I felt it...the guilt. Betty ran off the stage and Veronica followed her. I ran down and followed Betty into the hallway. I needed to find her and talk to her. I shouldn't have done that, but then I wouldn't be a Serpent. I saw Betty sobbing and Veronica was comforting her.

"Betty!"

"Whatever you have to say, Jughead...save it. You're disgusting and I can't stand you." Betty cried.

"They made me choose between being a Serpent or you! I had to do one so then they didn't kick me out."

"I thought after I forgave you, that you wouldn't hurt me. You're a liar and you're disgusting."

"Will you please talk to me about this? It was a one time thing!"

"Jughead! You can't be this way anymore! You want to be my boyfriend? Then act like it! I'm done with you...I hate you more than anyone and anything on this Earth. I need you to leave me alone." Betty cried and nodded. Veronica stepped on my foot and they went off. This was the moment that I knew...I screwed up.
