"I don't really have an explanation." He shrugged.

"You don't have an explaination? So what? You were just fucking with me for the sheer fun of it?"

"No, I mean that ... I don't know how to love."

"You don't know how to love? Are you trying to say you love me?"

"No. I mean yes. I mean... I don't know how to have a healthy relationship. I don't know how to love kindly."

"What do you mean?"

"Well, my mother left or died or whatever when I was really young. Then my father became really distant and cold. I mean, you've met him. And then I've been homeschooled all my life until recently so I guess I always thought that's how you're supposed to act. I didn't know how to show "love" any other way. I love you, Marinette. I care about you a lot. And I'm sorry. I'm so very sorry for the way I've treated you. You didn't deserve that. And I completely understand that you don't want to be with me. But I hope we can be friends, because I want you in my life."

Marinette stopped and Adrien did too a few feet ahead of her.

"You hurt me. You ... broke my heart, I hate to admit. You broke down all my walls and then stabbed me in the back. And forgiving you is the last thing I wanted to do."

"I know."

"But ... I get it. And as hard as it is to believe, I know you didn't mean to hurt me. So, even though this might be completely stupid and even though my brother is going to fucking kill me, god he'll be so pissed, let's give us another shot."

"Really?" Adrien moved closer.

Marinette smiled, "Really."

Adrien grinned and scooped her into a big hug, "Thank you, so much."

"But Adrien, you can't try to manipulate me or ignore me or basically treat me as less than you. You have to talk to me and trust me and respect me."

"I know. I know that now. I'll do better, Marinette. I promise." He held her hands close to his chest.

Marinette leaned in, kissing his soft lips.

"Now, let's go tell my brother."
