◤ chapter two ◢

music blared filling the bedroom
to the brim with its sound, with song after song being played. some sad, some happy, music scores from films, and video games were also thrown into the mix as well. yet, no one was area to enjoy the melodies that poured out from the speakers.

atop the rooftop of the house though, was a different story.

finn griffin's sat with their knees tucked under their chin, scrolling ferociously through another new's article that said that the same thing they all seemed to say;

'confirmed dead.'

"bullshit." the young adult spoke aloud in a disgusted tone. he wasn't confirmed dead until his body was dropped in front of their own two feet. was that a bit much? perhaps, but it was the only way that they would actually believe he was gone.
sighing, finn pulled the hood of the now very worn out sweatshirt further down over their head. as if that single action would block out the world around them, and truthfully to an extent, it did.

if they closed their eyes, stayed as still as they possibly could and didn't speak it was somewhat alright. they could hear the music coming from their room, feel the slight breeze that often passed through. it wasn't peaceful for say, but it helped drown their thoughts out. just barely, but it was better then nothing.
of course, blocking out the world never lasted long. the music had abruptly shut off and just a few moments later a voice was calling out to the young adult.

"finnegan we've talked about this"

their eyes snapped open, and as quickly and carefully as they could, they climbed down off the roof and climbed back into the window of their bedroom, only to meet their mother with a disapproval scowl etched onto her face and both hands on her hips.

"it's past noon already?" finn questioned shifting their weight from one foot to the other. they gave their parental unit a small smile, trying to lighten the mood between the pair. it didn't work.

"how many times have we had the same discussion about you spending time on the roof?" was their mother's response, a hard look was seen in her eyes.

"we've touched on it once or twice" finn spoke quietly, avoiding eye contact with their mom as they moved away from the window which they once had come from. shuffling carefully over to the bed, finn kicked off their shoes before pulling back the covers climbing in and processing to pull the covers back up to their chin and closing their eyes.
their mother sighed slightly before also making her way towards the bed, sitting down on the edge of the mattress.

"you know, cleaning up and ridding yourself and your room of some of this..." the older woman paused for a moment, trying to find the proper wording. "research you put together" she said finally, "might help."

"it'll help me find him and bring him home, that's what this will all do." finn spoke tiredly not bothering to open their eyes. not that their mother could tell if they were open or not, due to the hood falling over half of her child's face.

"did you eat today?" their mother asked, an obvious attempt to change the subject. there was no response. "finn." she tried again, a long string of incoherent words came from the young adult but eventually a 'yes' was made out.

doreen griffin's nodded her head slightly looking down at her child. she was a mother and she could deal with many things that her kids threw at her; bad tempers, low test grades, and what seemed to be the endless dirty laundry. yet seeing one of her own suffer and only being able to do so much to alleviate it all, killed her inside.

"have you spoke to the others yet about everything?" this time, the question that their mother had asked made finn laugh dryly almost immediately upon it being asked.

"mmm oh totally, it went over so smoothly! hey guys remember my boyfriend who i never really spoke about around you guys for the past two years? well anyway, he's missing in space-apparently dead, i'm super depressed about the whole thing and hellbent on finding him, oh also i dropped out of most of my classes this semester! how have you guys been?" every word that they spoke dripped with sarcasm because honestly, finn wasn't sure in the slightest how to address the situation.

chayse, miles, lia, and rowan were four of the young adult's best friends–well best friends was only the tip of the ice burg in finn's opinion–these people that had popped into their life years ago were absolute god sent's! coming in at a point in their life when it was needed most and everyday they were so beyond grateful for each of them, and the ever lasting friendship that they had created.

"well you should at least get together with them soon, it is almost summer god knows you all deserve a break" and with that being said their mother left the room without saying anything else.

finn wasn't sure how long they laid there, their mind racing with a million different things but it was as if their mother's last words were stuck on a loop almost. a constant, never ending loop and eventually the gears in their head begin turning.

fishing their phone out of the pocket of their sweatshirt, they merely typed out a single question and hit send, before putting the cellular device on the night table besides them.

the young adult let out a breath they hadn't realized they were holding in, as they ran their fingers through their hair hoping that the events of this upcoming summer would help them simply forget.
