◤ chapter four ◢

at first, she simply pushed it off as a notification from a social media app. maybe one of the accounts on instagram that she had post notifications on for posted, or perhaps it was a snapchat. of course though, the slight buzz that came from her phone which resided in her back pocket became more consistent this really only meant one thing:

the group chat was active.

thalia grey sat in her last class of the day at her desk, chin resting on the palm of her hand, her leg bounced impatiently and every few seconds the young teen glared over at the clock that hung from the wall practically throwing daggers at it due to the fact that time seemed to stand still.

all she wanted to know was why the group chat was active. was it due to a meme one of the others sent? or just a random comment that needed to be spoken into the universe never to really be touched upon again. yet with the amount of buzzing that came from her device, whatever was occurring in the group was much more than a funny meme or a fleeting comment.

"now if you would turn to page 9 we will be starting the topic of the–" but her teacher was abruptly cut off by the last bell signaling the class had ended, thus meaning that school as a whole had wrapped up for that day.

bolting up from here spot, lia shoved everything from atop her desk into her bag, barely zipping it up all the way, before throwing it over her shoulder and darting out of the class.

scrambling to retrieve her phone from her pocket, she was only met with the words 'connecting' once she opened the message app.
god she hated not having service in this hell hole....and just being in this place in general.

lia was definitely someone who was a " do first, think later" kind of person and it showed in whatever she did. from throwing textbooks at people for being homophobic , to playing 'don't touch the floor it's lava' with nothing but the round surface of volleyballs that ultimately led to her screwing up her knee , and everything in between.

now currently, the brunette had roughly fifteen minutes in between her last class and softball practice for the day. the nearest place that had wifi off school grounds was ten minutes away. five if there weren't any red lights.

and that's how lia found herself speeding down the roads of her small town to find good cell service to see what the hell her friends were going on and on about.

she hastily pulled into a makeshift parking spot the second her phone went from no service to two bars and by makeshift parking spot it really was makeshift, as in she made her own spot then an there on the side of the road.

once more that day, she opened the message  app, for a fleeting moment she was greeted with the words connecting and almost just almost wanted to scream out in frustration but that all flowed away once the messages had loaded and the blue dot appeared in the kik group chat.

the crappy little app had become a place where she truly felt like she belonged over the years. was the app annoying as hell? yes. we're her four best friends all in a completely different times zones than her so things were always a bit off? yes. but she really wouldn't want it any other way. because those four people meant the absolute world to her and more.

reading over what they were discussing, lia couldn't help but scoff. she wasn't trying to be rude or anything along those lines, she was simply just surprised to see what everyone were talking and going on and on and on about.

rolling her eyes she quickly got down to typing out a reply before hitting the send button. glancing at the clock found on her car radio, the young woman let out a string of curse words before tossing her phone on the passenger seat and throwing her car into reverse, peeling out of her makeshift parking spot.

"those fools are so lucky they have me" she spoke aloud to herself as she once again sped down the roads of her small town back towards her school. this time though, her mind was not racing with questions about what the hell was happening with her friends, instead her head was consumed with the possibilities of what this summer was to bring.

this summer was going to be
one heck of a ride.

happy three years❤️
