There was something different about waking up this morning, Jax wasn't beside you, but it's not like that has never happened before, something just felt...off.
While stretching out your arms you reached over for your phone on the night stand, no messages, that was odd. But you knew better than to worry, Jax could take care of himself, that much you knew.
-
Mid afternoon, halfway into some random yard work you heard your phone go off, text from Jax.
'Meet me at our spot in 10.'
"What?" You muttered to yourself.
Wiping the sweat from your brow, you didn't even bother to reply, you just knew you had to be there. Strapping on your boots and throwing on a jacket, you hopped onto your bike, it will get you there a lot quicker than the car.
Pulling out of the driveway, you couldn't help but think about the first time you and Jax went to your 'special' place. It was your twenty-first birthday, you had to practically drag him the whole way there, but once he was there, it automatically belonged to the both of you. It was where he first kissed you, where he told you he became VP, and where he asked you to be his old lady. Needless to say, this place was very special for the both of you.
When you pulled up to the water tower, all you saw was John Teller's old bike, that was odd, Jax must have already climbed up.
After hanging your helmet on your bars, you darted for the metal ladder that would lead you to the top, and sure enough, Jax was there waiting for you.
"Hey darlin'," He greeted you with a hug.
You replied with a small smile, wrapping your arms around his torso,
"Is everything okay?"
He stepped back, "Yeah, just been a busy morning."
He looked tired.
With a furrowed brow, you nodded, accepting whatever answer he wanted to give you.
"Have you been home all day?"
Sticking your hands into your pockets, you shrugged, "Yeah, thought I'd start on the yard, been putting it off for too long."
He chuckled, but it didn't sound like him, "Yeah, you have been putting it off for a while."
"What are we doing here Jax?" It just blurted out, you didn't mean to, but you just needed to know why you had a horrible feeling in the pit of your stomach.
With both of his hands he gently cupped your face, "Let's go down to the cabin tonight, just me and you."
A smile spread across your face, "Really?"
The two of you hadn't spent time alone in a while, so his offer made you quite happy, you almost forgot your worry. Almost.
"Yeah," he lightly smiled, "I just have a few more things I need to take care of, then I'm all yours."
You shook your head in a joy of disbelief, "Yeah, okay-I'll just, I'll need to go home, grab a few things."
"Take all the time you need," he leaned in to kiss your forehead, lingering longer than usual.
You tried not to think anything of it as he pulled back, dropping his hands from your face.
"I gotta go."
"Okay," you suspiciously replied.
He pulled you into him, wrapping his arms tightly around you, hugging you as if he hadn't seen you in years.
"I'll see you soon," whispering in your ear before stepping back to kiss you deeply, "I love you."
"I love you too," was all you could get out. So confused about the intensity of his actions, you didn't know what to say, or if you should even say anything.
And then he was gone, leaving you at the top of the water tower with your thoughts, and your worries. But you trusted him, the two of you were going to be at the cabin by the end of the day, and all will be well.
-
It had been over an hour, yet you were still at the top of the water tower, with nothing but your thoughts to keep you company.
Third cigarette in, your phone begins to vibrate, it was Chibs.
"Hello Chibby," you answered.
"Hey love, have ya' heard from Jax?"
"About an hour ago. Why?" You flicked the burned butt over the rail.
"Where are ya'?"
"At the tower-Chibs what the hell is going on?" Your heart rate was beginning to pick up.
"I'll come an' pick ya' up-"
"No, you're going to tell me what's going on, where's Jax?"
Chibs let out a long shaking breath, "There was an accident-"
You're body went numb.
"-Jax was hit by a trucker..."
You sunk to the floor, grabbing at your chest, your entire body may have been numb, but your heart felt like it literally exploded.
"-I'm comin' for ya'..." Chibs voice was distant, even though it was right in your ear.
Not saying a word you threw your phone over the edge and slumped down onto the metal grated flooring. You screamed out and tears began to stream down your face.
