Scurrying through the diner like a madman, your finger impatiently tapped on the counter, awaiting your order so your could get the hell out of there.
The waitress noticed your numerous glances to the door, "It's almost ready dear," she sweetly smiled.
You returned her kind gesture, "Okay."
It's been five years since you've been in back in Charming, five years since you've seen your folks, and five years since you've left Jax with nothing more than a "goodbye." And since you've been back you had been avoiding that ill fated awkward reunion.
Nervously, you sipped your coffee, your ears on the prowl for the presence of a motorcycle, and your heart jumped at every false alarm.
"Here you are hun," the kind waitress held out the plastic bag, "it's so good to see you again."
"Uh, thank you," you awkwardly yet genuinely smiled, taking the food. Another successful outing.
Tossing a five dollar bill into the tip jar, you were a foot out the door when you heard them, and by the time it registered in your brain, it was too late to make a run for it. The shivers in your chest spread to your hands, if you could have moved any faster you would have, but your soles had turned to lead.
One by one they pulled in, it took him all but two seconds to notice you standing there, and he nearly ran into your car when he did. Killing his engine, and ripping off his helmet, you stood staring as he carefully made his way closer.
Your throat ached as you tried to hold yourself together, the pained expression in his eyes weren't making it any easier.
"Don't look away," you kept thinking, because if you looked away, you'd probably take off running.
"Hey Jax," you finally managed to get out.
He was so close that he reached out, not saying a single word, and tucked your hair behind your ear. Then he smiled, "You're really here."
