Your light slumber was disturbed by the soft and hesitant knocks on the front door. Jax appeared from the kitchen,
"I got it.""Expecting someone?" You asked, with sleep still in your voice.
"No," Jax hushed before looking through the peephole.
"Is everything okay?" His first response to opening the door to find an impatient Gemma on his doormat."What?- Yeah, everything's fine," she replied as she peeped over to see you nodding off again on the couch.
"Family nap time?""Yeah, something like that- Mom what's going on?" Jax didn't beat around the bush, he knew something was up.
Gemma gave another quick glance your way before leading her son into the kitchen.
"There's a new doctor over at St. Thomas..."Jax looked over at his mom with a look in his asking, "And...?"
Gemma lowered her tone to a whisper, "Dr. Knowles."
It took almost a second for the name to register to Jax, it had been so long since he's even thought of it, or the woman it belonged to. It was like high school memories were all flooding right back in all over again.
"I have to go do something-" He tried to head for the door.Gemma grabbed Jax's arm, "Before you make any decisions Jax, just remember, you have a family now," she gestured toward the other rooms, "a beautiful family. So don't let the past ruin your future."
Jax simply answered with a nod before walking out the door.
-
He wasn't nervous, nor was he restless, if anything Jax had to have been content. But when the elevator doors opened up, and the first person he saw when he looked up was the exact person he came there for, all he could do was sort of smile.
"Jax?"
"Tara." He stepped out, leaning in to give her a short and simple hug.
"Goodness it's good to see you," she stepped back , taking him all in, "haven't changed much," she smiled.
Jax shrugged, "Old habits die hard."
Scanning her over definitely brought back old memories, but they were memories of a different life, of a different time. He wasn't the same man that she had left here all those years ago and she obviously wasn't the person as well."So..." She pulled at her lab coat, "how are you?"
Jax chuckled at the obvious awkwardness, "I'm good, I'm a dad now," he smiled at his words.
"Yeah, I heard, congratulations. Boy, right?"
"Yeah," Jax cheesed even more, "his name is Abel."
"Abel, I like that, it's a good name."
From the look in her eyes Jax could tell that there was more that wanted maybe even needed to be said.
"So I actually came here to see you, is there somewhere we can talk?"She was caught of guard.
"Uh, yeah. We can talk in one of my empty rooms."Jax nodded as he followed her lead.
-
It was late, after Gemma had left, you took Abel a bath before putting him to bed, and by the time you heard Jax getting home, you were already curled up in bed.
"Hey," you rolled over to watch as he entered the bedroom.
"Hey," he replied as he began stripping off his clothes, "little man give you a hard time?"
You watched your baby daddy with a little smirk on your lips, "Wouldn't be a Teller if he didn't."
You both smiled. In nothing more than his boxers, he hopped in beside you, pulling you close into him. There was a in sync sigh as the two of you settled.
"I know about Tara..." You had to let him know.
Jax was only quiet for a second, "I did go see her..."
There was another brief pause, "There are some things that needed to be said, and that's exactly what happened, but I'm keeping the past in the only place where it belongs," he wrapped his arms tighter around you, "in the damn past."As you were looking up at him, the darkness shadowing his features, a light smile began to form on your lips.
"I love you and I love our son, that's everything I need."
Reaching up, you traced the lines of his jaw before pulling him into your lips. And throughout the night, whenever one of you weren't off with Abel, you stayed there in the bed, embraced in each others arms.
