CHAPTER 3
FEBRUARY 2012
I was shaking. I was biting my fingernails. I was tapping my foot. My stomach was churning. I was looking at my watch to check the time. I just wanted to know.
"And next we have the nominees for Album of the year!" Someone announced. I was hardly even paying attention I was so nervous.
I just wanted to know. Had we won? Would we really take home the Brit award for Best British Single?
I really had no idea what the outcome would be, we were up against some huge names, Adele to name one. I looked around the table at the other boys faces, they looked just as nervous as I was.
Come on Zayn, calm down. If we win, then we win, and if we don't, well we don't. We were only just starting our career, we hopefully had many more award shows ahead of us..... it would be amazing to win this though.
I started fixing my tie when suddenly Louis put his hand on my leg, that made me more nervous then ever. The time had finally come.
"And here are the nominees for Best British Single."
The screen lit up showing clips of Ed Sheeran's video for "The A Team". I looked away, I couldn't watch.
I closed my eyes and started breathing really heavily. We can do this, we can do this.
"One Direction!" the announcer said as I started to hear the chorus of my song play throughout the arena.
Even if we don't win, being nominated for a Brit for our first single ever is pretty impressive.
I closed my eyes again. I couldn't do this. I have been waiting for this day my entire life and I don't know what I'm gonna do if we don't win. We've worked so hard, and I just want to make my parents proud and....... then I heard the screams.... I opened my eyes to see the whole table out of their seats.... Harry was holding his hands over his face, Niall was just jumping over and over again, and Liam and Louis were hugging with the biggest smiles on their faces...... we had won our first ever Brit award.
Our whole time on stage was a complete blur. I really have no idea what happened. I don't even remember if I said anything or not, but I do remember that it was one of the happiest moments of my life, thats for sure.
"We won!" I said yelled into the phone as soon as I heard her pick up.
"Yeah I know! I watched it! Congratulations!" Zoe said excitedly.
"I just can't believe it, this is incredible."
"Yeah same! I'm so happy for you!"
We were both silent for a moment, and then another, and then she said, "Do you think you can come over tonight?"
"Umm I don't know, there's like an after party and stuff, so I'll probably be really tired by the time every things over."
"Oh okay, another time then, right? She sounded hopeful.
"Yeah definitely, see you soon babe."
"See you soon." She said and I hung up.
Me and Zoe had been dating since the beginning of December last year, so it had been a few months now. I met her on the set of our music video for "One Thing" in London. If she was with me I'd probably say something cute like "We had a connection immediately" or "it was love at first sight" but it really wasn't. She seemed like a really nice girl, so I asked for her number, she gave it to me, and that was all that happened that first day.
Like I said, Zoe's a really nice girl and everything, but I don't think our relationship's gonna last too long. I just don't feel the connection.
"Zayn, come on! Are you ready for the party?" Louis said as him and the boys came over to me.
"Of course I'm ready! Lets do this!" I said.
"I bet Liam's gonna have so much to drink tonight." Harry said laughing.
"Leave me and my one kidney alone! We're ready for some fruit punch!" Liam said as we all laughed even harder.
"Do you think they even have fruit punch? This is an awards show after party! These things go hardcore!" Niall pointed out.
"They better! Or else I'm taking the award and going home!" Liam said.
We all laughed at Liam and I looked down at my phone... maybe I should have asked Zoe if she wanted to come to the party too. She lives like 2 minutes from here, and they definitely would have let her in if I said she was with me..... it's too late anyway.
"Come on guys lets go!" I said to my friends before I could give it a second thought.
