(Small trigger warning for an intense scene towards the end of this chapter! This is just a quick little filler chapter, not long at all :) more Dally action in the next chapter! Don't forget to leave a vote or drop a comment!)
Darkness fell upon the city quickly, and Talia was only halfway home from the hospital when all of the sunlight disappeared from the sky.
Fortunately for her, the streets in Tulsa were pretty well lit, leave for when she reached the poorer part of town. Streetlights became more scarce, and there was longer stretches of complete darkness.
Talia had never been worried walking alone at night. Austin was always a fairly safe city, and only when she lived in that city was when she was walking alone at night.
For a while, it was only the sound of her heels accompanying her on her walk home, but soon, she heard the low rumble of a car behind her.
She passed it off as nothing, just another car driving by, but the constant rumble behind her made her nervous.
Talia glanced behind her, and noticed a pristine car following close behind her. Too nice to be in her neighborhood.
The car noticed that she had spotted them, and pulled up close to her, rolling their windows down and stopping right next to her.
"Well hey sweet cheeks, what are you doing walking all alone at night?"
Two boys from her homeroom. She recognized them as ones who laughed at her when someone called her a 'dirty greaser'.
"Going home." She said briskly.
"Need a ride?" The boy in the passenger seat offered, giving her a grin.
Normally, she would've declined the offer. Getting into a car with strange boys? Ones that haven't had any good interactions with her? Big no.
"Those socs are bad business."
Thursday. Two-Bit and Talia had cut class to go smoke behind the school. Both watched as a group of Soc boys did laps around the track that surrounded the football field, showing off their athletic prowess.
"Don't have to tell me twice. They all laughed at me and made fun of me on my first day here." Talia passed the lit cigarette to Two-Bit, who took it graciously.
"I'm just so tired of it here. Tired of the rumbles, the taunting, the fear. I just wish we could all get along."
Talia nodded, listening to Two-Bit intently. He had been in Tulsa for his whole life; she had only been here for a few days. She had no idea how bad it actually was.
She didn't trust those Socs. Not one bit.
Talia had walked from Buck's to her house, and from her house to the hospital. Her feet were bloodied and blistered, and ached with every step. Momentary relief was needed.
She sighed, and threw her hands into the air, shrugging and stepping off of the sidewalk and opening the door to the car.
"Talia, isn't it?"
The car reeked of alcohol, and so did the breath of the boy speaking to her. Slowly, Talia nodded.
"I'm Bob, and this here is Randy," he motioned to the driver who was slowly letting his foot off the brake.
She sat back in the comfy leather seat of the car, scanning both boys cautiously. She slipped off her heels, rubbing both of her sore feet.
"You can turn here." She said softly. However, neither of the boys heard her, or so it seemed.
They drove past Talia's street, deeper into her neighborhood. Her heart was racing in her chest, and with each street they passed she became more and more nervous.
"Um, my house was back there." She spoke up, a bit louder this time. Still, neither boy said anything.
Talia sunk back into her seat, staring out the window, hoping a passerby would see her, uncomfortable and in the back of a stranger's car.
Shock and adrenaline pumped through her system suddenly as the car hopped a curb and began driving onto the grass of the park located a few blocks away from her house.
Mentally, she began making a game plan. As soon as the car stopped, she would jump out and begin running towards her house. No, not her house... The Curtis residence was much closer, and at least there would be people there who could help her.
"So, Talia, where 'ya from?" Bob slurred, turning back to face her as Randy drove slowly around the playground and fountain of the park.
"Texas." She replied, voice shaking.
Bob cackled loudly. "Randy, I think our little Greaser Girl is scared."
Randy turned around in his seat to face Talia too, and grinned at her momentarily.
Talia gripped the handle for the door and yanked it open, but as she did, Randy floored it, and the door swung back and shut suddenly as he took off towards the road.
"I think she should have some liquor to calm her nerves!" Bob yelled, opening up his flask and shaking it at her, spraying the liquor all over her dress and hair.
"Stop!" She screamed, shielding her face from the alcohol.
That did it. She had to get out of the car.
Talia wanted to wait until Randy slowed the car down, but in his drunken state, she didn't know when that would be. As such, she made the executive decision to get out of that situation, no matter what the damage would be. She gripped the handle of the door once again, and once she opened it, she tucked her head safely and launched herself out of the car.
She skid along the road, feeling her skin tear on her legs and arms as she protected her head as much as she could. Talia heard the car braking quickly, and even with her injuries, she picked herself up from the pavement and began running back towards her neighborhood, as fast as she could in her bare feet and with the limp she now had.
"That's right! Run, you dirty Greaser!"
