All the breath was knocked out of Jane's lungs as soon as she saw the question that was left on that dreary Thursday afternoon. It was a normal day, the sun barely peeking out from the clouds and nothing particularly exciting or interesting happened. But despite the day being typical, she knew that she would always remember it as the day that she got the breath stolen away from her. She bit her lip the entire lesson, wanting nothing more than to agree, to tell him that they would defy all of the odds and meet in person. She wanted to know what he looked like and how she felt when she looked into his eyes, how his touch made her hand tingle when he looked at her with such soft and curious eyes. She finally gave in and let out a deep breath, writing the reply that they both knew could change everything.
Okay
Really? You will?
Yeah
Promise?
Promise.
I'm going as Venkman...a ghost buster you know, with some of my friends...I doubt you will know who they are but we love the movie and so decided to dress up to go out. It will probably be around 7 pm sharp, my friends hate it when people are late but we can meet separately if you want. Sorry, I'll shut up and stop writing nonsense
Paladin, are you okay?
I'm just really nervous, that's all
Why?
You might hate me...you might not even stick around for more than an hour and I would hate it if you changed your mind about me
Let's just not make a big deal about it, okay?
Okay, deal.
Cool
Can I tell you something though?
Yeah...
I really can't wait to see you face to face.
The next week dragged by for Jane, them exchanging teasing ideas about different costumes and what candy was in their top three. She found herself getting more excited as the week went by, barely able to reply to his messages in class because she was too busy daydreaming about what it would be like to see him in real life. She wondered if they would hold hands, or if he would walk her home afterwards, flushed as she pressed a quick kiss on his cheek. There were so many things that she didn't know about him, but at the same time she felt like she knew him better than anyone, like he saw who she really was without really seeing her.
That night, Jane hugged her father goodbye as she looked for a makeshift costume. Her eyes wandered through her wardrobe, groaning when she realized what a mess it was, her orbs finally closing in on something covering her bed. She grinned automatically, remembering what he would be dressed up in, the idea making her feel giddy as she cut holes in her white bed sheets and tugged it over her brown curls. She squealed happily, twirling around and imagining the look on his face when he saw her costume, imagining his face lighting up with a smile at her wanting them to match. They would like they fit together, maybe enough for Jane to think that this was all meant to be. After talking herself up in the mirror and memorizing the address that he asked her to meet at, a street only a short walk away from hers, she wandered out into the cold evening air with a small yet nervous smile on her face.
When she finally arrived, her eyes greedily lapped up the images of the busy street, children everywhere with parents in different outfits while swinging their buckets of candy. Her eyes caught onto a familiar fabric, four long jumpsuits with zips down the middle in tanned colors, black machines tapped to their backs. Her heart sped up, recognizing a familiar group of boys dressed as ghost busters laughing about candy types and pretending to capture ghosts in mid air. She felt her breath hitch as she noticed the last member of the group, nearly a whole foot taller than her with raven hair and adorable freckles. It wasn't just that she remembered bumping into him that week, but it was the way that his eyes scanned the area hopefully, his eyes constantly flickering down to his small calculator watch. Mike Wheeler was there, and he was waiting for someone - for her.
She felt her chin wobble as she remembered Mike in class throughout the school year, all of the times he had eagerly raised his hand and answered each question perfectly. He was in her class for a while before him and his friends transferred into a more advanced science class, finding the material too easy for their smart and eager brains. He walked around with an easy smile, his eyes soft yet guarded when his friends were picked on. Most of all, she remembered how perfect he was without even realizing it. She felt herself fall into the typical fight or flight mode brought on when she encountered danger, and couldn't help herself.
She turned around and ran away before he could see her.

SORRY...but at least she knows who he is! There is only a couple of parts left and things will work out eventually so do not worry :) I hope you liked this Halloween idea with Jane joining them in her little ghost outfit! Please leave a comment, let me know what you thought and what you think will happen next <3
