Jane spent the entire night hating herself for leaving Mike standing there, not wanting to imagine what his face when he realized that she wasn't coming. She could picture his eyes losing hope with every second, his small smile fading as his friends convinced him to forget about what had happened. Then she could see his fists clenching, his eyebrows furrowing as he shook his head, disappointed in the girl that he had come to meet. She knew that after his heart had stopped aching, the anger would swoop over him until he forgot exactly why he ever liked her. Perhaps him hating her was even worse than not knowing her.
She closed her eyes when she saw his message the next day, the letters small as if he hardly knew what to say. She sniffed, her hands shakily coming up to reply throughout the day, his responses filled with anger and disappointment, like he couldn't believe how she had treated him. Now that she knew who he was, she had started to write out his name M - I - K - E - before scribbling it out quickly.
You promised.
I'm sorry
No you're not. Don't lie to me, El. If you were sorry then you would have told me you weren't ready or that you weren't going to show up, not just leave me there
Please don't hate me
I stood there and waited for over half an hour, thinking that you were coming
I'm so sorry
Are you even going to tell me why?
Do you care?
I just want to see what kind of stupid excuse you come up with
Look, you don't understand
What happened?
Nothing
What happened? Everything was so perfect and I started to like you, El. I really liked you. You can't just do that to someone - to me.
I don't know what to say
Don't bother then.
She couldn't stop herself from leaving class early that day, asking to go to the nurses office just before lunch. It wasn't completely a lie, Mike's words had made her feel sick to her stomach as she imagined how low he must have thought of her. On her way to lunch after sitting in the office to clear her thoughts, she glanced into the classroom where she knew Mike would be. There he was, sat by the desk that they scribbled on, eyebrows pinched together as he reread their messages over and over again since it got wiped away. His dark hair was flopping over his dark eyes, filled with so much sadness and disappointment like he was angry at himself as well as Jane. She watched from the small window for a while, poking her head back down anytime he came close to looking up at the front of the room, where she watched from.
The lunch bell went and before she could look away, Mike's eyes glanced up and met hers. Jane was frozen in place for a moment, her eyes wide and filled with so much pain that he immediately knew that it was her. His eyes cleared with understanding and he quickly gathered his books, cursing when he looked up to see her running away from the window. He pushed past his curious friends, seeing her soft brown curls disappearing down the hallway with her pink backpack bouncing on her shoulders, practically too big for her small frame. She was quick for such a short person and even with his long legs, he couldn't catch up to her.
He was left alone, wondering what he was going to do.

Well, he knows now...last chapter will be up soon :) Felt like treating you all and getting it finished today as it was never going to be long anyway. What do you think will happen next? Will Mike be angry/sad or will all be forgiven? What will happen when they have a conversation face to face?? Please leave a comment and let me know what you thought of this chapter and how their table conversation went!<3
