This house looks like a penthouse, not as big and beautiful as Jason's, but still remarkable. We arrive quite early because we had to slip out of the house before 5 pm and party here, doesn't begin before 7 pm. So, Jason and I help out Nick, his friend, with pre-party preparations. Guess I should turn into a party organizer.
Nick's got quite a charming personality, however, he doesn't look as good as Jason. Jason's got these lovely blue eyes with dark brown, curly hair. Nick is with green eyes and blonde hair, which looks cute, but not as good as Jason's. Jason has this deep, mysterious nature. Speaks only when necessary, has a type calmness which is felt prior to a storm, listens like a deer, though humorous and witty, he hardly likes to show that fun side of him. On the other hand, Nick is very friendly, he has a natural aura around him which makes people attracted towards him, talks politely yet with an attitude which defines him. They're like two different sides of the same coin.
"I just can't wait to get these damn bottle contents down my throat," Nick comments as we ready the wine bottles. I chuckle in response, not knowing exactly what to say.
A couple of seconds later, the doorbell rings, revealing a pretty young girl of our age. Nick pulls her into a hug, which makes me wonder if she is her girlfriend. But when Jason does the same, I get the idea that she might just be a friend. I watch them a little longer than I should. Because, the next moment, they turn towards me and start approaching me. In the fear of not getting caught up on staring, I frantically go back to doing whatever I was.
"Hey Anika, meet her, she's Kiara," Nick introduces me to her and Jason is nowhere in sight. Why isn't he? I wonder.
On a closer look, I find this girl really attractive, with hazel eyes, classy black curls, perfect shinning teeth. She looks like a modern goddess in that red, backless dress of hers. No, not a doll face, I see no innocence, but a lot of smartness.
"Hey!" I chirp, stretching my hand forward for her to shake. However, she dismisses it, and settles with a cold response, "So, 'you' are that girl, Jason was so eager to bring?" The way she says 'you', makes it sound as if she's disappointed and expected more. But more of what?
"Jason's got no choice!" She adds in.Does she really think that I am Jason's choice? I look at Nick with questioning eyes but he just shrugs it off. She then turns on her heels and walks away with a flying attitude.
"What. was. that. about?" I ask Nick saying each word separately.
He shakes his head and says, "Don't let her bother you. She's just...she,"
I think for a moment or two and then ask, "Is there something I need to know and I don't?"
Nick puts his hands in his pocket and then replies, "No" with a small chuckle.
Though I get a little suspicious, I smile back and we continue our work of setting up the counter.
"You know, you're like a best-friend material," he compliments me. I smile to myself without looking at him.
"No, really!" he continues, "I know we hardly even know each other, but there's something about you that doesn't go unnoticed."
"And...what is that?" I lean against the counter. I decide to ignore the part where he says, 'we hardly even know each other,' because that brings about memories of a person which I hoped would be as friendly and open like him.
"I don't know that yet," he grins as he stands right in front of me, limiting my vision only to his eyes.
I chuckle in response and look directly into his green eyes. The green in his eyes slowly dissolves to form a shade more deeper, more blue-ish as I stare a bit longer. I instantly know those are Jason's eyes and until now, I never realized that I'm so obsessed with his eyes.
"What are you thinking?" I hear that familiar deep voice and before I can even process my words, they stumble out, "Your eyes."
"Anika?" That deep voice though louder is heard distant and my eyes start to follow the direction of the sound. That's when I'm brought out of the momentary daze and a little red reaches up to my cheeks as I realize that all this while it has been Nick and not Jason.
"Yes?" I try to answer him, but it comes out as a whisper. Nick smirks at me and then stands out of my way. By this time Jason is already close enough to us. He looks at Nick with an expression I can't understand.
"What man?" Nick lets out a small laugh, easily serving it's purpose to break the glaring contest.
"I need to talk to you," Jason turns towards me. I understand that he wants some private talk with Nick, so I turn back to leave. However, he grabs my hand and gently pulls me back.
"No, I mean, I need to talk to you," he repeats directing those words to me.
"Oh, ok," my voice comes out soft and unsure.
Without leaving my hand, he leads us out of the house, and to the lawn. There's a very faint bluish purple line in the sky to the west, which indicates that the dusk is up. The dark sky in the east, shimmers with stars which draw it's shine to a palm tree right across us.
"I see, you're quite comfortable around Nick," Jason breaks the silence as soon as we're under that tree.
"Yeah, he's got that natural friendly aura around him. I like him." I say exactly what's in my mind.
Jason raises his brow and asks, "You like him?"
"Ohh! No!," I immediately almost yell, "I don't like him in that way, just a friendly way. We hardly even know each other, how can I like him?" I start to ramble, unconsciously quoting 'those' words.
"Right! You hardly even know each other," he repeats and I bite my lips.
"You...wanted to say something to me," I ask, feeling uncomfortable with the awkward silence around us.
"Yeah, yeah," he rubs his temple as if he's trying to remember what he was about to say, "ummm...I just wanted to ask if you're comfortable here, or you want me to take you somewhere else, like dinner or something."
"No, you were so looking forward to this party. And anyways, I like your friends except for that Kiara girl. Who's she anyways?"
"Kiara!"
"No, I mean, how do you know her?" I laugh-smile
"Oh! She...well, she... wasmyhighschoolgirlfriend," he blabbers something.
"Woah! Come again?"
"Does it even matter?"
"Maybe?"
"No, it doesn't matter, leave it. Just...just be careful around her, alright?" He settles.
"Careful? As in? Is she some sort of typical high school bad girl?" I laugh.
"Not a bad girl, but bad enough for you," he replies.
We then hear loud music banging out of the penthouse so that we know the party is on.
"Let's go," he says with a small smile as he leads me back to the house.
