Mykala POV

I look up to see John standing in the doorway.

And he does not look impressed.

Oh no.

Here comes the lecture about relationships, secrets, and probably a whole speech about how I should have told him.

Sherlock immediately lets go of my hand and stands up, while I instinctively curl into myself, pulling my knees closer to my chest.

It's something I do whenever I feel like I've done something wrong.

Whenever I think someone is disappointed in me.

"Mykala."

John's voice softens.

"Sit up. You haven't done anything wrong."

Slowly, I look at him.

"All I want to know is why."

He pulls a chair closer to the bed.

"Why didn't you two tell me?"

Before I can answer, Sherlock speaks.

"We didn't tell you because there is nothing to tell."

John raises an eyebrow.

Sherlock continues.

"We are not together, John. Not officially. The gestures you have witnessed are simply signs of affection."

He glances at me briefly.

"Mykala and I are both married to our work. Neither of us recognised what was happening until it was already happening."

I try to hide a yawn, but fail.

John looks between us, clearly trying to process everything.

"Okay. Okay then."

He points a finger at Sherlock.

"But just so we're clear, Sherlock. If you hurt her, I hurt you."

A smirk appears on his face.

"And I have a bloody good shot."

He runs a hand through his already messy hair.

I can't help but smile.

"I know."

Sherlock's response is completely calm, as though John threatening him is a normal Tuesday conversation.

"Now, I should leave. You'll both be discharged soon, and my dear brother and I need to visit Mummy and Daddy."

He grabs his coat, scarf, and gloves.

"I will see you both back at the flat."

Before leaving, he leans down and presses a gentle kiss to my cheek.

Then he walks out.

I immediately roll onto my side, burying my face into my pillow.

Because I can't stop smiling.

John has never seen me like this before.

I turn back towards him, but the smile refuses to disappear.

"Why are you so giddy?" John asks, picking up a newspaper from the side table.

He opens it and begins reading through the latest stories, something he has always done when he wants to distract me.

I shrug.

"Your best friend, William Sherlock Scott Holmes, is actually a wonderful man."

I chuckle softly.
