Months passed.

And nothing happened.

That was somehow worse.

Moriarty had not spoken.

Not written.

Not hinted.

Not left a single clue.

Nothing.

And honestly?

I hated it.

Because with James Moriarty, silence wasn't peace.

Silence was preparation.

It meant he was waiting.

Planning.

Watching.

And that terrified me.

I wasn't just scared for Sherlock anymore.

I was scared for my children.

For Joseph and Boo.

Because Moriarty didn't just know Sherlock now.

He knew me.

He knew John.

He knew exactly where our weaknesses were.

And my children were the biggest weakness I had.

The thought alone made me feel sick.

So we adapted.

Sherlock took smaller cases.

Quiet cases.

Cases that didn't attract attention.

No newspapers.

No interviews.

No dramatic appearances.

I did the same.

Between my work with the government and keeping my family safe, I had enough on my plate.

The biggest change, however, was moving.

The twins and I moved into the flat directly above 221B.

Not because I wanted to invade Sherlock's space.

Although he would probably argue that I had been doing that since the day we met.

We moved because if something happened...

I needed to be close.

Sherlock needed to be close.

The twins needed to be close.

The only problem?

Sherlock Holmes did not sleep.

Ever.

At least, that was what it felt like.

The violin was usually the first sign.

Two in the morning.

Three in the morning.

Sometimes later.

The beautiful sound would drift through the ceiling.

The first few times, the twins thought something was wrong.

"Mummy?"

A sleepy Boo would appear in my doorway.

"Is Daddy okay?"
