Mykala POV

What on earth had I been thinking?

Going to Baker Street had been a mistake.

A huge mistake.

I'd gone there because I couldn't bear the thought of Sherlock wasting away.

Instead, I'd left feeling as though my heart had been torn apart all over again.

John drove me home in silence.

Halfway there, he glanced towards me.

"I'll collect the twins."

I nodded gratefully.

"I don't think I can."

"You don't have to."

He squeezed my hand before pulling up outside my building.

"I'll bring them back."

By the time John returned with Joseph and Boo, I had cried myself to sleep on the sofa.

---

"Mummy..."

Tiny fingers gently shook my shoulder.

"Mummy, wake up."

I slowly opened my eyes to find Boo smiling down at me.

Her curls were slightly windswept from being outside.

I immediately pulled her into a hug.

"Hello, sweetheart."

She giggled.

"You've been sleeping for ages."

"I know."

She studied me carefully.

"You've been crying."

Children noticed everything.

"I'm okay."

She wasn't convinced.

"Mummy..."

"There is a man at the door."

My heart stopped.

"What?"

"He said he knows you."

I sat bolt upright.

"Boo..."

I looked towards the hallway.

"You didn't let him in, did you?"

She looked horrified.

"No!"

"You taught us never to let strangers inside."

Pride mixed with relief.

"Good girl."

She smiled proudly.

"I remembered."

A knock echoed through the flat.

Three slow knocks.

Sherlock.

Of course.

I stood, smoothing down my jumper before opening the door just enough to step outside and quietly closing it behind me.

Sherlock stood in the corridor.

Hands buried inside his coat pockets.

Looking more nervous than I had ever seen him.

"I wasn't sure if you'd answer."

"I'm surprised you came."

"I said I'd wait."
