"I'll see you in your room in a few minutes

"I'll see you in your room in a few minutes. I just want to go grab something real quick." Lying to Steve was never easy, but you had to do it to complete your mission.

"Don't take too long." Steve smiled and wrapped his arms around your waist. Your hands flew up to the back of his neck where you gently, but firmly pushed a tracker into his skin. You covered it up by hugging him closer, making him think you'd accidentally pinched him while pulling him into you.

"I'll try not to," you said as you pulled apart. You watched Steve walk down the hallway in the direction of his room, before you turned in the opposite direction towards the lab. Since you'd placed the final tracker on the last Avenger, Steve, now all you had to do was activate them to give HYDRA permanent access to their locations at all times.

Once you reached the lab, you went straight towards the computer and took a seat in front of it. You began activating the trackers one by one. It had been about thirty minutes and you were nearly finished activating Tony's when you were interrupted.

"(Y/N)?" You swirled around in your chair so fast your arm knocked the keyboard right off the desk.

"Steve." You began to panic. You'd been caught. Now Steve was going to know you were lying about everything and you'd failed to complete your mission.

"What are you doing?" He walked toward you slowly. You tried your best to cover the computer screen behind you.

"I-I was just doing some late night... research." You gave him a nervous smile. Steve clearly noticed you stumble over your words. He was taking slow calculated steps in your direction.

"Why, um, why are you here?" You crossed your arms over your chest, trying to act casual. If you were lucky, he hadn't yet seen what you were working on. If not, well, you'd just have to fight your way out.

"Stark found something interesting today." His eyebrows furrowed. "It seems that he, Nat, Banner, Thor, and Clint had all been bugged with tracking devices." You could feel your whole body tense, but you tried to keep your breathing steady. "He thinks it's someone on the inside, someone we trust, but I didn't believe him." You let out a breath of relief and felt your shoulders relax slightly. "Until I found this." He held up the tracking device you'd placed on him not too long ago.

"Shoot," You mumbled.

"I trusted you."

"Look, Steve, I can explain." You took a step in his direction, but he backed up.

"How long have you been working with them?"

"Please, I didn't--." You were interrupted mid-sentence.

"How long?!" He shouted.

You sighed. "Four months." That was the exact length of time you'd known Steve. You were practically saying you'd been lying to him since you first met, which wasn't entirely true. In the beginning, you were simply using Steve as a way to gain intell about what was going on within SHIELD and as a way to get to the other Avengers. After a few weeks, however, your feelings for him became real. You didn't have to pretend anymore that you cared for him, and that's part of why your mission became so hard to complete.
