xviii - carolxvalkyrie

There was a faint knocking on the door.

"Come in," Carol said, barely looking up from her book as Thor stepped into the room.

"I was wondering," he began, "whether you remember my mentioning of a badass bisexual friend of mine."

"Yeah, what was her name? Brun-hither?"

"She's better known as Valkyrie." Thor said quickly.

"I remember." She waited, knowing where this was going.

"Well, she's around at the moment. I was wondering if you would join us for dinner tonight."

"I'm sorry Thor, I can't do tonight," Carol said, surprisingly genuinely. "I have a meeting with Tony."

"That's why I spoke to him. He said to "go get it, girl". Thor smiled wryly.

"Of course he did." Carol muttered.

So that was how she was roped into a date with Thor's friend from another another planet. It was just a casual dinner, and Thor would be there. Carol told herself this a number of times leading up to the dinner, uncomfortable with how nervous she was.

And although she did not know it, Valkyrie was sitting in a car with Thor, thinking exactly the same thing. For fuck's sake, they both saved the world a good two to five times, and yet here they were, nervous to meet each other.

Carol walked cautiously into the restaurant. She feel uncomfortable in her nice dress and makeup, suddenly scared that she had put too much effort in. She brushed it aside. It was her choice to do this. She was Carol Fucking Danvers.

"Hi Thor, and hey, you must be Valkyrie," She said as she reached their table.

"Carol!" Thor smiled.

"Hi, yes. I am. Hey." Valkyrie seemed just as nervous as Carol, and worse at hiding it.

"We were just discussing Fury's new rules about media and interviews," Thor said.

They fell into a steady conversation, ranging from the Avengers, to Loki, and to planets and galaxies. Thor and Valkyrie told a thrilling tale of Sakarr and a Grandmaster, and in return, Carol described how she came to have her powers, and how she met Fury.

In time, the topic travelled to the more humane things, like hobbies and food. Carol and Valkyrie were getting on well, and Thor slowly began to draw out of the conversation, and eventually stating that he had to leave.

"You were my ride, so I might have to go too," Valkyrie said.

"I could give you a lift?" Carol offered, with a quick glance at Thor.

"Oh, yes please."

They bad goodbye to Thor, and continued talking. Valkyrie finally began some light flirting, which was immediately continued by a relieved Carol. Soon enough, Carol checked the time, and realised that it was already midnight, so she suggested they leave.

The ride home was comfortably quiet, and when the reached the Avengers complex, they walked together into the elevator.

"This was fun," Carol said. "We should do it again sometime."

"We should."

The elevator dinged, and the doors opened. They stood, preparing to depart ways when Carol took her chance and quickly kissed Valkyrie. She stepped back and blushed.

"Bye."

There was a muttered exclamation from around the corner.

"I got it Thor! Captain Marvel flustered by cute girl, kisses her after their date," Tony said, holding his phone gleefully.
