"Doctor Strange? Yeah, there's an emergency involving Stark. You better come."
Stephen sat up straight. The woman on the phone kept babbling details, but he couldn't listen.
"Where is he?"
"He's in an ambulance on the way to the hospital right at this moment. We've already informed Miss Potts."
He hung up without warning, stood up, and walked out onto the streets of New York. Within two minutes he was sitting in a cab on his way to the hospital. He was well aware that he was not thinking straight, but that wasn't important if Tony was in danger.
Pepper knows. Pepper knows. Surely she can make sure everything is fine. She can get on top of a situation better than anyone else, but she can't save injured people.
The cab pulled up, and Strange opened the door and speed-walked across the entrance to the hospital. He ignored the angered yells of his unpaid driver, who grimaced, and slammed her door shut as loudly as possible. Stephen barely noticed.
He sprinted up into the hospital, heading straight for the admin desk, where it was thankfully Julie working, who knew Stephen well from when he had worked here.
"Stark. Where did they take him." He said breathlessly, ignoring Julie's attempt at a normal conversation.
"One second," she said, typing quickly. "Room 28, floor six."
"Thank you," Stephen muttered as he sped off. He was incredibly grateful that it had been Julie working, not some other person who would have slowed him down, or become offended by his haste.
He walked briskly, almost running, through the hallways. His old coworkers looked curiously at him, but said nothing. Every once and a while, someone would greet him excitedly, and then brush it off when he ignored them. After all, when he worked there, he rarely had time for niceties when there wasn't an emergency.
Finally, he made it to the room where Tony was. Strange pushed the door open and stepped in, frantically looking around. That was when he saw him, in the bed, propped up on pillows, waving weakly. Stephen let out a breath that he had not realised he had been holding.
"Oh my fucking God," He muttered, rushing over to him. "I thought you were dying, or dead, or-"
"It's alright. I'm fine."
"What.."
"I did almost die, though," Tony said nonchalantly. "But the kid, Strange. Peter saved me."
"Christ."
"Yeah, he was brilliant. Swung in and freed me from being crushed to death."
Stephen sat down on the chair beside Tony's bed. "Where is he now?"
"Home," Tony said. "He said he'd drop in with May, though."
"I can't believe you almost died. You look terrible."
"Charming, as always," they smiled. "I could use a doctor's kiss."
"Let me call the nurse," Stephen said jokingly as he stood up.
He sat back down, now on the end of Tony's bed, and leaned close to his face. Taking in every detail, from his bright eyes and his smile to his bruised cheek and cut lip, Stephen kissed him lightly. He was so thankful that Tony was alright, and merely wished to revel in all of the man in front of him. They kissed again, for longer this time.
"I save his life, not even for the first time, either, and this is the award I get? To stand awkwardly in the doorway while I watch him make out with his boyfriend."
"Goddammit, kid. You could have announced your presence."
Peter walked into the room, smiling slightly. Stephen stood up, feeling somewhat embarrassed, and waved awkwardly to the young boy, just as his aunt came up behind him. He was very grateful that May had not also walked in on he and Tony kissing.
