With Remus away, Sara spent almost all of her time at Mary's house, with baby John. She didn't know how much time she had left, so she wanted to spend as much of it as possible, with her child.
After forcing her body to go 9 months without transforming into her Maledictus form. Sara was finding that she needed to become a dragon, much more than she had done before.
But with Remus away, Sara was more afraid than ever, that she might get stuck as a dragon, and be unable to turn back, without him by her side.
However, when she held John in her arms, it was easy to forget all of her fears and worries. And she found it hard to admit to herself, that she had created something so perfect.

After one particular day with Mary and John, Sara returned home, to find Sirius sitting on her doorstep.
"Padfoot. What are you doing here?" She questioned suspiciously, as her hand drifted towards the wand in her pocket.
"I came to see you. I knocked, but you didn't answer, so I thought I'd wait here for you to come back" answered Sirius, as he stood to his feet.
It took Sara a few more moments, before she was sure it was Sirius, and could let her guard down.
"I'm surprised that you didn't just let yourself in" admitted Sara, as she unlocked the front door, and allowed Sirius to come in behind her.
"Well, I know how much that annoyed you last time, so I decided to wait outside. I've only been waiting for about 20 minutes though "
"But you had no idea how long I was going to be gone for. You could've ended up sitting there for hours"
"I wouldn't have minded. Sitting there gave me the time I needed to think".

"Think about what? What's wrong Sirius? I can tell that something is bothering you, because you aren't your usual cheery self. Please tell me what it is" begged Sara, as she led the way into the living room, after hanging up her coat in the hallway.
"It's Regulus" Sirius said quietly.
"Your brother? What's he done?" Asked Sara.
"He hasn't done anything... He's dead"
"Oh Sirius. I'm so sorry. How was he- I mean, was it someone in the Order who-"
"No. I've asked around, and Regulus wasn't killed by anyone in the Order. Mad-Eye reckons it was Voldemort, or someone in his employ, that killed him"
"Why would they kill one of their own?"
"I don't know. They aren't like us, but I'm pretty sure that even they don't kill their own people, without a good reason.
I'm going to do some digging though, to find out what happened.
But if I had to guess, I would assume that he chickened out, and didn't want to be a part of the Death Eaters anymore. But Voldemort doesn't exactly let you resign, does he? So I guess that's why they killed him...
Not that it matters. It's just one less Death Eater to worry about".

Sara grabbed hold of Sirius's hand, and squeezed it tight, while offering him a reassuring smile.
"I'm sorry Padfoot. I know he joined the Death Eaters, but was still your little brother. And I know how much you used to care about him" she said softly.
"Yeah. But mother has already sent me an owl saying that I'm not welcome at his funeral" admitted Sirius.
"Charming woman your mother. But she can't stop you from going, he was your brother afterall. If you really want to go, then you should just ignore her, and turn up"
"I know. But it's probably best if I don't go. I don't want to get into a fight with her, at Regulus's funeral. Besides, I haven't even spoken to him since I left home, all those years ago. So it's not like we were close"
"It wasn't that long ago. I know it feels like longer, but it's only about 3 or 4 years, since you moved in with James and his parents. And then I joined a year later, just as you moved out, to get your own place"
"I hadn't forgotton".

"It's just such bad timing. Losing your brother, so close to Fleamont and Euphemia's deaths... This really hasn't been a good year for any of us" Sara said quietly.
"Me and Regulus had nothing in common" replied Sirius sharply.
"But he was still your brother. We might not always like those in our family, but we always love them. Besides, you're the only one in the Marauders, lucky enough to have a sibling"
"That's not true. James is my brother, as is Remus, and Peter. And you are my sister Sara"
"Maybe in our hearts that is true. But we aren't actually related, and they do say blood is thicker than water"
"I don't care what they say. We are closer than just friends. We are a family...
We don't get to choose what family we are born into, but I choose you, all of you. You care for me, more than my own family ever did. I removed them all from my life years ago, and I don't regret my decision"
"If you say so".

"I do... Where were you when I arrived earlier anyway?" Questioned Sirius.
"I was with Mary" answered Sara truthfully.
"How is she doing, looking after that baby all by herself"
"She's doing very well. And although she doesn't need my help, I want to give it to her"
"How very humble of you Smokey".
Sara elbowed Sirius in the ribs, causing him to grin.
"I can be a nice caring person you know" said Sara defiantly.
"I know you can. I was just teasing you" grinned Sirius.
"Good. There's the happy Sirius we all know and love"
"Yep. Which reminds me, we never had that duel in the end"
"I don't think that's such a good idea Padfoot. Without the others here to stop us, or declare a winner, things could get messy".

"Too scared to face me?" Teased Sirius.
"Hardly. I could beat you with my eyes closed" grinned Sara.
"Not without turning into a dragon, you couldn't. If it was just a magic duel, with wands alone, I would so beat your ass"
"In your dreams Black".
Sirius chuckled, and stood up.
"Well, if we aren't going to fight, then I'd better be off. I've got things to do you know".
"Yeah, I expect you do" sighed Sara.
"Thanks for cheering me up though Smokey"
"You're welcome Padfoot. Feel free to come round any time that you're feeling down"
"I will".

It wasn't long before Sara found Sirius sitting outside her house, once again. As Sirius's father; Orion, died shortly after Regulus, and Sirius needed someone to confide in again.
His mother; Walburga, had made it very clear to Sirius, that he was not welcome at his father's funeral either. So Sara held a little service for them both, in her back garden, which gave Sirius the chance he needed, to say goodbye to his father and brother.
Their deaths seemed to spur Sirius on, encouraging him to throw himself more into his work with the Order.
Now that she was no longer pregnant, Sara decided to do the same, fully giving herself to the cause. She was determined to use the rest of her life, to do whatever it took, to stop Voldemort and his Death Eaters.
So that her son could grow up in a safe an happy world.
