The brightness that was assailing Aviva's dream faded away as if something massive had clouded the sky above her. Curious, she opened her eyes and should her not having a jet lag from her soul-traveling, she would've kicked that nosy person in front of her.
"Good morning!" Ashley Archer bent over her, grinning demurely. "Come feel the warm sun--"
"Are you out of your mind?" Aviva quickly covered her face with her blanket and shouted, "The sun! The sun! Put down the curtains, moron!" Though her voice was muffled, the threats administered in her tone were enough to send Ashley into action.
Aviva cursed. She was so close to getting to know her mother... She had never thought that a mother would abandon her offspring without a reason. She believed her mother held a secret from her and she was about to ask her when this boy waked her up.
"Alright! The coast is clear now, Princess! You may come out of your castle," Ashely mocked.
"I swear upon the stars that I'll stuff the stinky beans down your throat if you ever lie to me."
"Uuuh, that's a long threat. I'm so scared of it." Ashley groaned. "Just come out, loser. A little sunshine won't make you tanned."
Gingerly, Aviva lowered down her blanket. She drew a sigh of relief as she felt that she was still in one piece. She died once and she never liked the experience. She would only allow mild sunrays in her house once she'd applied her sunblock. Frowning, she glowered at Ashley.
The sandy-haired boy retaliated with a piercing stare. "Seriously, what's wrong with you?"
Aviva's eyes rolled as she thought of a reply. If I let this boy know too many of my weaknesses, he might not fear me anymore. Clearing her throat, she said in a haughty tone, "What are you doing in my house? Go home, now. I don't have the time for nannying a whiner."
"Guess what? I'm going to Salton Shore with you! Isn't it exciting?" His cerulean eyes sparkled like the ripples in the ocean. "You need a bodyguard, after all."
"A bodyguard who has almost killed me," Aviva grumbled to herself.
"What did you just say?" the boy asked in an innocent tone. As Aviva didn't reply to him, he continued, "I know some martial art skills from the internet. Watch this! Hee-ya!" Ashley made a weird screech as he jumped on the floor like a monkey who had just eaten some spicy banana.
Aviva didn't know whether she should laugh or cry. She had never favoured a companion in doing her mission except for Mr. Mime. But her butler had to stay back to take care of the manor. Right, she could seize this opportunity to boss around the boy.
Her aggravation melted away at that thought. A grotesque smirk escaped from her lips as she ordered Ashley to prepare the necessities for the trip to Salton Shore. While the boy busied himself with shoving snacks and toiletries into a backpack, Aviva went upstairs to freshen up. She donned herself a black singlet and a pair of long trousers. After tying up her hair with her favourite pink bandanna, she put on her traveling cloak.
When she arrived at the kitchen, Ashley had just finished the last piece of bacon sandwich that was meant for her. Annoyed, Aviva hit the back of his head with her backpack. Amidst the fight, Mr. Mime came scrambling towards them, bringing Aviva's briefcase and a roll of blankets. With a polite smile, he placed them into Ashley's hands before urging them to hurry up. One by one, they kissed the butler on his cheeks before departing to Professor Oak's laboratory.
Mr. Mime waved them goodbye until they were out of sight. The group consisted of Aviva with a small backpack, Ashley Archer with a shebang of goods, Professor Oak, Pikachu, Charmander, Gloom, and some other Pokemon which Aviva stored in her Pokeball. Aviva didn't bring along Butterfree as she didn't want any fights to hurt that pink creature. Since Professor Oak's laboratory was just across the street, they arrived there in less than fifteen minutes on foot.
