Regina saw the heartbreak and regret all over Killian as soon as they had arrived at the rehabilitation hospital.

The way he smiled and brought Kay flowers, and looking at her still with pride for their time visiting touched Regina's soul.

As it was obvious, Killian had a caring sibling love for Kay and a romantic love for Regina. Either way, it would devastate him again, if not more, if something happened to Regina in a fight.

Regina understood his concern now, and had almost more respect for him. He even had taken responsibility for Kay's bills, as she had no family money or support.

It broke Regina's heart thinking how devastated he was when Kay got so seriously injured. It wasn't his fault, but she knew there was no point attempting to change his mind on that.
Killian would always feel responsible for Kay's downfall, and no one, even Regina, could change that.

Regina could only try to ensure it didn't happen again. There was no guarantee. Any combat sport held risk, and a sport based on hitting your opponent was always going to be a higher risk.

Regina had grown up around the sport and knew all the risks. When she was a young girl, her father showed her fights of people getting hurt and explained how it can happen.

He was always honest with his daughter giving her a good head on her shoulders. With that, however, he didn't teach her to be afraid, even if there was a risk.

If your passion was greater than the risk and you felt the need to compete and go after it, deep in your blood, you should try, is what he taught her.
He also taught her that it was never okay to quit but that it was okay to move on to another passion.
Her father put a positive spin on most lessons he taught.
Telling her it was okay to move to another passion was his way of saying it's okay to not follow through with a fight.

Regina held all his lessons dear to her heart. She imagined he taught Killian similar.

To make the blow of Kay worse, Regina was so disheartened to hear her accident was right after Regina's father died.

It was a low time in Killian's life.

As the pair lay in bed, Killian's face rests on Regina's midsection. She gently caresses his hair on his head.

"That's why you drank isn't it?" Regina asked softly. "Mmm, Yes. I drank a bit, fighting my sorrow, given Kay was injured and your father passed the same few days, and I wasn't even able to pay my respects to him without leaving her side, which I couldn't do," he mumbled.

His scruff rubbed gently against Regina's abs as he lay there wrapped around her and her hand gently continued to play with his hair.

"I was never a drunk, but I definitely drank and had some nights." He muttered. "And the few months ago where I came to get you?" Regina asked.
"I got a call Kay had a set back that night and I rushed to see her and I just fell back toward the bottle," he admitted.

"And then I came and got you," Regina said. "Mmm," he kissed her stomach gently. Regina sighed, and let her hand caress around his neck.

"I'm sorry I got so mad at you," she said softly. "You had every right, I told you something and then tried to go back on it," he muttered.

"You got pretty angry too," Regina mused. "Yeah well I get a bit protective and I can be a stubborn ass," he said.

"No you?" She mocked sarcastically.

He chuckled against her, "you were pretty hot Fighting with me," he teased. "Well you did make me pretty mad," she said.

"You forgive me?" He asked tipping his head up.

"That depends," Regina shrugged. His brow danced upward. "Are you going to let me fight?" She asked.

"I knew that was coming," he sighed resuming his face against her tummy. "Killian, you know my father said that if your passion was greater than the risk and you felt the need to compete and go after it," she recited.

"Deep in your blood, you should try," Killian interrupted and finished.

Regina breathed and he lifted his head up to look at her. "He taught you the same," she smiled.

"He also said if you move on to another passion..." he started. "No no," she put her finger over his lips.

"I'm not done with this one yet," she said holding her hand to his scruffy cheek. He gently kisses her palm, and looks at her.

"You know I have to do this," she said.

"I know, and you were meant to, and I don't want to be that man that stands in your way, because he's afraid, just because he loves you. I want to be the man that supports you and stands behind you because he loves you." He said earnestly.

She sighs happily at him.

"We're going to have to double our training, to get you ready for the Solo fight," he said.

Her eyes brightened, "really??!" She glees at him.

"Yes, I want you extra ready, I'm going to go harder on you than I ever have and I want you prepared, Got it?" He asked.

Regina's POV
His trainer voice- swoon ...

"That's your trainer voice," she smiled. "Yeah well that's what I am unless you're trading me in for bloody David," he mocked.

She laughed at him, "no not now," she leans forward and kisses him sweetly.

"Good, because come on I am the best," he boasted.

"You are," she smiled. "Now come on get mad at me," he grinned, pulling her legs towards him.
"Why?" She asked. "So we can have some angry sex.." he grinned playfully. "Well make up sex is fun... I'm sure I'll get angry at you again soon enough, but maybe not as bad so I'll still want sex," she teased.

"On my desk.." he grinned excitedly.

She laughed loudly under him as he leaned down and kissed her.

"Guess you're in boyfriend mode now," she purred at him. "Mmm, what gave it away?" He gripped his hand under her ass.

Regina giggled cutely as he tugged his shirt off, and leaned back down to kiss her neck. "I do love the boyfriend part," she whispered.
