Chapter 2

What's that?

I stared at the writing for 30 seconds trying to decipher what it meant but it just doesn't come up into my mind yet. I decided to think about it later and chose to open up the package first to see what's inside.

Uh...where's my cutter..?

I went to my drawers to find a cutter to slice through the packaging neatly instead of ripping it with my hands and causing a mess. As I was searching for the tool I heard shuffling coming from behind me, I looked behind and see the packaging still intact and everything is securely in place.

I started getting the shivers and wonder where did the shuffling came from. But I shrug it off and thought it was just the maids outside doing their job as I continue to find my cutter.

When I finally found the cutter, I walked back to the package and kneel beside it. I hold the package in place and started cutting the top part slowly, trying my best not to hurt my hand in the process.

I really hope a surprise is waiting for me from the inside...maybe there will be something other than books? Maybe new stationery? Or perhaps...food? Clothes? I am not so sure but I am pretty excited..

I hope reality doesn't disappoint me for once.

As I finish cutting through the top part of the package, I opened it and saw a stack of.....

Books?

I raised one of my eyebrows confusingly because all I see is a stack of study books...then...why does the packaging look so pleasing yet the insides are just...bland?

Is this what people call "Disappointed but not surprised"?

I wasn't sure what I was thinking before...there's no way a package that was delivered to me are filled with anything but books?

Such high expectations I have, yet a harsh reality was given to me instead.

Oh well...more stuff to read I guess..

I dropped the cutter beside me and started picking up the books one by one as I placed them on the floor.

As I was emptying the package I casually look at the title of the books:

Wow...just as I thought I knew a lot already, this book suddenly appeared in front of my eyes...thanks mom and dad.

Yay...I finally don't have to figure out my own tricks...I am actually pretty grateful. Hope you don't disappoint me like how the package did.

History of Marie Curie

A history book about an intellectual woman scientist! I really thought my parents are gonna buy me The History of Michael Faraday or William Shakespeare. But then again, I probably already have it in the library.

To be honest, I could go on and on with judging the books that my parents bought me, but since there are 15 books, it'll be time consuming.

After I emptied the package, I carried the stack of books with both of my hands and neatly store them inside my small bookshelf. While I was carrying the stack of books, I felt something fall out and made a huge clinking noise. By reflex, I dropped the books near the bookshelf and searched for the mysterious object that made the clinking noise before.

I scanned through my room and saw a necklace with a blue, white tinted gemstone in the middle. I am not quite sure what type of gemstone that is but I think it's really beautiful, it glistened when the sun from the outside of my window hits it. What I can conclude is that the necklace isn't one of those kinds that you can buy in the Dollar Store.
