It was the final weekend before classes started up again. Sam had dragged J out to go shopping, which J could now participate in since there was more space in his closet, Taurtis was cooped up in his room, and Dom was marathoning some tv series in the living room. Grian wasn't as bored this time. He was busy getting all his note cards and other essential scholarly items ready for the new term, or as Dom so eloquently put it, "masturbating nerd style."
He was currently organizing his folders, keeping essential papers that he would need and throwing out all the busy work assigned during the previous quarter. Sitting among the neatly stacked papers was Snowcone. Call him crazy, but the stuffed animal kept him company.
"With the amount of times they drill this into our heads, you'd think someone's just randomly going around, pointing a gun at people and asking them if they know the quadratic formula. Like, 'if you don't solve this problem, I'm gonna blow your fuckin' brains out.'"
Snowcone stared blankly at him.
"Well, I'm sorry. Was that too violent for you? What about someone walking around a supermarket, saying you can't buy any sweets unless you solve the problem?"
Just unmoving, plastic blue eyes.
"That was better? You're so picky," Grian shook his head as he returned to sifting through his papers, "What about Pascal's triangle? When is that ever going to be useful?"
"What do I want to do?" Grian raised his eyebrow, taking a moment to think about it, "I don't know. I want to go to college, but I don't know what degree I'm going to go for. I might just play it safe and go for something in business."
Grian shook his head, "No, I don't think business people use Pascal's triangle."
Grian threw his hands up, "See that's why it's so stupid. No one uses advanced math unless they're a mathematician... or an architect, I guess."
Grian stared at Snowcone, "Is it weird that I'm talking out loud to you?"
"Nah."
Grian placed a few papers in the trash can next to him and put the others back in the folder before moving on to the next. It was tedious work, but at least he was already half-way done. He had definitely earned a much-needed break by now.
He stepped into the hallway, heading to the kitchen to get a drink when he heard a hushed voice arguing with someone. He peeked around the corner to see Dom talking on the phone.
"Did it ever occur to you that I don't give a shit?... I can say whatever the hell I want to say... The only reason you haven't knocked off my phone plan is to solely piss me off. I'm not your slave, I don't have to do anything for you... For the last fucking time, I'm not some spy that you can use to get at the Johnson's. And guess what, I'm in love with Taurtis and three other guys so you can fuck off already. I'm gay, just accept it or stop trying to contact me!" Dom grit his teeth.
"Yeah, well you already did just that. You can't lie to me. You're the one that won't let me come back. You shut me out... I don't care about you or mom or anyone in that bullshit family. I found a better one and-..." Dom growled before slamming his phone against the counter.
"Fuck," Dom punched the countertop, flying his phone off the side.
"Dom?" He stilled, his head hanging down as Grian stepped out into the kitchen, "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing," Dom mumbled, turning his back to Grian.
"That didn't sound like nothing," Grian stepped closer, "Was that your parents? Did something happen?"
Dom didn't respond, just kept his back turned.
"I just want to help," Grian placed a hand on Dom's shoulder.
Dom whipped around, slamming Grian's back against the fridge, "Don't you dare! You don't know what's going, and I don't want you or Anyone Else shoving their nose into My business! I can take care of myself just fine!"
Grian gripped Dom's arm that was pressing his shoulder down. Dom tightened his grip, his forearm pressing down against Grian's throat, making it harder to breathe.
"Dom," Grian struggled, "You're hurting me."
Dom tilted his head, his eyes narrowing, "Oh, does that hurt? Maybe this will teach you to stay out of things that don't concern you?"
Grian was beyond terrified. He could feel tears finding their way up to his eyes. Dom was mad, rage was practically seeping out of every crevice in his body. His eyes were glossed over, almost like he completely lost himself to fury.
Grian tried to pry his arm away, but it just made him press harder. A choked sob left his lips, tears streaming down his face. Dom was much stronger than him, there was no way he could free himself.
Then, suddenly, the pressure was gone from his neck. He gasped as he tried to calm himself down. Dom's wrath was no longer directed at him, instead, it was trained on the person who saved him.
"Grian," Taurtis spoke calmly, not taking his eyes off Dom, "Go to your room and lock the door. Do not come out until I get you."
Without another word, Grian scurried out of the room. Taurtis didn't relax until Grian's door slammed shut. He didn't know what he was going to tell Grian when this was over. He had seen Dom angry before, but none of the others have. They could never risk what might happen if they were around. Dom never meant to be so rough, he always felt terrible afterward, but there was only one way to get rid of the frustration and Taurtis was fine with being on the receiving end if it protected the others.
He let himself be shoved into Grian's place, Dom practically snarling at him. Whatever his father said must have hit a nerve. Taurtis relaxed his body, tilting his head to the side, "Do your worst."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hey guys, so, all of the past chapters, up until when I mentioned that I hurt my neck, have been finished a head of time. Mostly because there wasn't much I could do when my neck was hurting, so I just wrote a bunch. However, as I expected, and as you can probably guess, I've been stumped on writing the next chapter, which you can probably already guess, will be a smut. I'mma be honest, if the next chapter comes out on time, I'm gonna be very impressed with myself. Also, I've been waiting, to get to this part of the story for so long, because DRAMA! YEH, DRAMA!! It can finally begin, even though it's technically been happening, with hints throughout the chapters, for a while now. But I'm happy because I get to add angst into this. Though, I will be honest, this book is supposed to be the most tame in this series, so don't comment at the end of this one being like, "Oh, this sucked. It could have had more drama." or "What the hell? You left stuff unresolved!" because oh baby, we're just getting started. Also, yes, you read that right; I meant to type out "series". I decided that now might be a good time to mention it because this is going to be a trilogy, but I might also do a prequel about how Taurtis, Dom, Sam, and J first got together. I mean, I probably will do it, because I have a storyline and everything, but I might get lazy, so who knows. Anyways, I hope you all have a wonderful day, I hope you all are enjoying the story so far, and I'll see you in the next chapter, Bye~!
