Connor had left about two hours ago and Jeremy had to go back to Washington for something that Jada did not care about when he was explaining she was just happy he was gone. Connor had left the Black Card on the bed for her because she had put a scissors to hers when he gave it to her the night after they were married. She had contemplated just taking a scissors to his but he had left a note warning her not to. She had eaten breakfast with her family as they discussed Thanksgiving dinner and who was to prepare what.

She had called the driver around to take her shopping but her mother heard her talking to him and intervened. "Oh you have a driver he can take us grocery shopping." She said and Jada inwardly sighed.

"I was actually going to go baby shopping." She explained. She was carrying Kadian, Stacy and Gretchen. Sure when a woman is pregnant she goes shopping with her mothers but to Jada her mother was an endless thorn in her side and baby shopping was something to be happy about.

"I want to go baby shopping." She exclaimed. This took Jada aback because her mother had blatantly told her to get and abortion a few days ago.

"Why?" she asked her face made up in a scrawl.

"Because you are pregnant and it's my grandbaby too." She said.

"Okay." Jada said hoping that her mother had changed and could see beyond slavery. "We leave in a few minutes just waiting for the car." She explained further. "Connors mother is coming and so is Stacy and I need you to be nice and do not insult these people." She warned her mother.

"I will try my best." She smiled but she felt it was a lie. The car pulled up and Kadian was outside waiting for them.

"Albert." Jada called and the man came to her in a few seconds. She leaned forward to whisper to him. "Get my father and brother to the golf course and you know not to let anyone upstairs." Jada said. Upstairs had endless evidence of marriage and they still shared a bedroom despite her parents visit.

"Yes ma'am have fun and take it easy." She reminded her he was a good worker but a great friend.

"Yes I will Alby." She hugged him and left. She got in the back with Kadian and they drove in silence for a few minutes before reaching the mall. Hank followed behind them he was driver and bodyguard they were looking for maternity wear and baby clothing as well. They stopped at a maternity store where they met up with Gretchen and Stacy who had already picked out a few things for her. She tried them on loving everyone, but she watched her mother as she scrawled at the ladies. Her hatred wasn't supposed to be directed towards this generation but it was and Jada hated it. She had no problem with white people, she loved everyone. Sure her ancestors had suffered because of it but she wasn't going to let because people had made huge mistakes and enslaved blacks make her love any less. She loved Connor and his family and they love her too and she was going to have a half white half black baby.

"Mom, do you like this shirt?" Jada asked trying to get her mother to focus her attention to her. Her mother looked at her and smile examining the shirt with the words 'Hands off the merchandise' written on it.

"Yes it's cute and funny." She smiled at her daughter.

"I thought so too." Gretchen chipped in and her mothers face went from love to distaste as Gretchen came up beside her. Gretchen saw the look at Susan walked away and Jada mouthed her an apology.

They finished in the maternity store and moved on to the baby store and they had six of those and they vowed to visit each one. The first store they visited was one that had only baby furniture which made Jada want to burst into tears because everything was so cute. Her mother moved away from the group looking at different furnitures. She scanned the furnitures feeling them and checking if they were sturdy.

"We have a bassinette that has been given down from generation to generation in the Jepson family and since you are family now it will be passed to you." Gretchen whispered to Jada.

"Really?" She asked.

"Yes, my grandson will have only the best." She exclaimed and Jada giggled.

"Thank you Gretchen." She hugged the lady. "You could have rejected me and told Connor not to marry me." She squeezed the lady.

"Oh no-one can tell Connor what to do. He loves you endlessly and the day he met you he called and said he met his wife." Her words made Jada blushed. "You are the only person Connor listens to and now he loves you more because you are making him a father and you two are perfect together." She said and Jada grinned from ear to ear. They continued walking around the store picking out a few things they liked and they would be delivered in a few days her mother had even picked out something for the baby.

They had gone into the stores that sold baby clothes and one can use the term shop until you drop in those stores because thats exactly what they had done they had spent majority of the day shopping for baby apparel and forgot to eat. "I am starving." Jada exclaimed as they entered the food court. She ordered some Chinese food which Stacy had brought to the table she had captured for her. They all had their respective meals engaging in small conversation and her mothers attitude wasnt as sour as it was when they first started their shopping she was more relaxed.

"So Susan," Stacy began and Jada froze afraid of what might happen if the conversation continued. She shook her head to Stacy but she ignored her and continued. "Jada here tells us you are a great cook." She sat back in the booth.

"Did she now?" Susan asked.

"Yes, she wouldn't stop talking about how much she misses your food." Stacy continued with a smile.

"Well I can't believe that since she hasnt been home in two years." She looked directly at Jada who had turned away avoiding her mothers prying eyes.

"Mom I told you I had to work." She continued the lie.

"Anyways," Stacy chipped in saving Jada from her mothers wrath. "Are you going to cook Thanksgiving dinner?" she asked.

"But of course." She looked almost offended.

"Okay, I want to help." Stacy said.

"Uhmm, I got it." Susan said. Susan believed that seasoning to white people was salt and that wasnt good enough to make food taste good.

"Mom, Stacy owns a restaurant." Jada said defending her friend.

"Really?" She looked at Stacy a small smile on her face but soon disappeared.

"Her food is really good." Gretchen said.

"Really? I have to give you a trial run." Susan said and Stacy shook her head excitedly. "You know Jada use to burn water." Susan joked which surprised Jada more than the insult. She was lightening up to them and it meant she could soon tell her that she was married to Connor and hope that they wouldnt disown her for her choice of love.

"Mom, that's so embarrassing." Jada laughed and so did all the women at the table and she felt like things could change and be different and she had a little hope.
