I said good bye to you
the moment i first looked into your eyes
I said good bye to you
because I knew
you would too.
and even in pronouncing the letters
one by one, slowly, desperately,
I thought, as one thinks of wonders
of dreams and of fairytales in ancient times
that you might not respond
that you might keep your good bye
closed in your mouth
never saying the words i fear.
and this hope betrayed me, as it always does
for when i say good bye to you
i say good bye to hope
while still being full of it
Tell me now
is not that contradictory?
and as i kept betraying myself
you made it easy
for i said the wrong word
and thought the wrong thought
and you did what they almost do
and said good bye to me
so quietly that i never heard it
and still knew it was there.
this good bye from you
was the validation mine needed
to say good bye too
